Yo,
I've got a Eps classic that i use as a midi-controller, but now i want to use the sampler aswell. PRoblem is there is a constant noise comin' out of the outputs... It seems to get worse when the diskdriv is working...
Anyone had the same problem or knows what to do?
HELP!!!

Peace!

My ASR-10 has a little noise. This is normal.

What level of noise are you talking about?

How significant is the noise increase when the Disk Drive is on?

Is the noise negligible when your sample/s is/are playing?

Is is an old sampler, some noise is normal. If it leaves you not wanting to use it as a sampler, there may be a problem. Perhaps, you prefer zero noise.?

wrrup sensei,
The output volum on the EPS is quite low so I have to boost it o my console thets when the nois gets disturbing..
When the diskdrive is working you can hear it within the noise.. if that makes sense to u..
ofcourse zero noise would be ideal but it aint that important.
I have a 3000LE and a s950 the s950 is a bit noisy but def not as much as the EPS. But the "clean" sound of the MPC makes the noise from the EPS more disturbing..

Thanx!!

yea my harddrive is close to my audio cables coming from my mixer. when i save/load something and the drive is running, the noise shoots thru the cables and its really noticeable. but when its off, the noise stops...

nah man, it ain't the console, trust me  it's the Eps..
my best guess so far is that I should open it up and se if there's some connectors or stuff like that that might be obviously loose.. and maby replace the drive.. anyone knows what drivw to use?

Thanx for the replys!!

The drives are quite hard to get they weren't your typical PC floppy drive. Check out http://www.chickensys.com/ ...they will have some info on them.

I remember some guy selling them for the ASR10 on ebay.

Another thing. People are saying that the output volume is quite low on their ensoniq samplers. Make sure you are recording your samples in at a good level. On the ASR there is a volume knob on the back near the inputs. A very tiny one. I am not sure about the EPS though. If you don't record your samples at high level they will have trouble overcoming the noise when you play them back or even when you record them. I record with the levels into the red on the ASR. This gives beter results and until now, no distortion.

Also check your cabling and power cabling. I remember my SP12 giving me some god awful noise when it was plugged in on the same electrical board as my laptops external harddrive. Once I gave the SP12 its on socket at the wall it was all fine. The noise was terrible before that. Old samplers can have some grounding issues.

You will get it to work, just persist. Regardless, the Ensoniq keyboards are work there weight just as a standalone midi controller.

thats the reason I got the EPS, to use it's fantastic keyboard!
The thing with the noise is that ypu can hear it even when the volume is on a normal level without extra boost on the console...
I thought the diskdrive might be hard to replace..

thanks again!
