It`s a quarter note. Looking at your mpc you will see a 4/4 time signature mostly if you haven`t changed it in your main screen of your what it is you got I think 2000XL you were praising awhile back all over the board?
Anyway that setting tells you that you have 4 quarter notes in a bar 1, 2, 3, and 4 aka 1, 2, 3, 4 which you hear in your metrodome.

Now to understand more get a basic music theory guide or really check out the GETTING STARTED Thread setup to learn more.

This is basic knowledge that is need for making music.

Seeing your latest post. Different programs uses different ways but some use regions set by tempo and others use a bars and you have to slcie yourself.

A good piece of advice is to download the pdf manuals of the audio editors you are interested in even if you don`t buy it or will never own it and you will learn alot.

First thing is to count the beats in your head and use your ears for the parts or hits you want.

Reading is a necessity unless someone can show you face to face. Just finished working and vibing with my friend watching his workflow on a 60. Other times I got to read about what I don`t know.

I chop at 1/8 sometimes 1/16. Bassically I stick by this rule. If I have a 2 bar sample, i chop it into 16 parts, One bar sample I chop it into 8 parts. Thats how I do all my chopping. Sometimes I go even smaller like one bar into 16 parts but I only do that when i want to get real intricate.

Alot of making a cool beat is preparation which alot of those beat videos on youtube and others don`t show. That is the real work if you got all of the parts trimmed, tempoed, chopped, and organized then the fun part begins putting it all together.

Like soaking the ribs in the sauce for two to three days before grilling them boys at ya background barbie Gerald.
