MPC60 MKII for £550

Hey guys,

I just sold my mpc1000 and was just about to buy an mpc2000xl Se-1 for about £525 ( with 8 outs) but i came across the following....

Akai MPC 60 MKII O.S 3.1/SCSI Option fitted (floppy is also still working). Full Memory. VGC.
£550

Now i did play around with one a while ago and i loved it. Is this the going rate for the 60 MKII????

i paid $660 last year for a mint 60ii with full mem, new floppy and backlight (forat) plus $60 shipping

i added 3.10 from route66 (grrrr) at $120

needed a step down transformer (£15 studiospares)

havent sprung for scsi yet

if the one you are looking at is fully functional and clean i'd say go for it. this unit swings and smacks harder than tyson in his prime

either go for it if you haven't bought it, or stick with it if you have.

I bought my 60II from a music shop in New York for $910 shipped to my door. Good condition, SCSI, Max Ram, O.S 3.1.

I know where you've seen this but will keep schtum

I reckon its worth a punt for £525, but even £550 is good.

ok dudes i know this has been discussed but since we talking anywayz, Im this close to gettin the 60. I sold my 1000 and i was gonna get 2000xl coz I used to have a 2000 classic till it litterally blew up. My dillema is this,

i aint gonna turn this into no 2000 vs 60 but basiclly, i know i want the 60 more coz i DO prefer the sound and Im going by my own ears not what some dude said. I got about 50-60 progams i created on the 2000 classic and I know it wont load so easy. Ok what was I gonna ask??? Fcuk it, ima get the 60, ok no wait. I need a smoke.......

you'll need to look into MPC editor software to see about program compatibility

whats your feelings on the 60 vs. 3k?

I think the more sample time def gives you more flexibility and the filter is useful but I tend to filter with an FX unit as I sample anyway. Theres not much in it, but when you're chopping drum parts like I am, that extra time is a godsend. I'm on a bit of hiatus at the minute until I find some decent software for specifically chopping samples (any suggestions? I've had a quick go with Wavelab). Its taking ages to chop some stuff up and its really hindering workflow and then to run out of time is a nightmare.

Word, thanks for the info. So you're not finding much of a difference sound/swing/punch wise between the two? As I understand it the 3k filter isn't a classic, I guess most people disregard it, but the sample time is definitely the move.

Have your 60's got SCSI, and if so what have you tried, zips, card reader etc? How does that compare with how you have your 3k configured? Sorry for all the questions!

Software wise I'm a bit out of the loop but I'm guessing you've tried Recycle? That always did the trick for me, especially if you are in a hurry. Some people aren't feeling what it does to samples (accuracy of chops etc) but I always thought it was pretty tight.
