Saving on CD-R's

I got the cd-drive installed.. last night, I tried to save a program with samples on a CD-R, rather than a CD-RW, and it wouldnt even register the CD as being in the drive...


I assumed that you could save onto CD-R's... I guess not?

You saying that you can't save the Program and Samples or Sequences, etc on CD's whatsoever... or that you have to burn the audio track as one big file.. like, saving a song as a wav or mp3?

I'm sure you can burn data CD's too?

I just dont get the usefulness of the CD drive if you cant use it as a data drive. Otherwise, then its an audio burning drive in a machine where you have very limited effects and mixing capabilities).


If its just that I used CD-R's instead of CD-RW's, then I completely understand...but if its that the CD-drive isnt a file saving drive at all... then, it seems like a useless feature... except maybe to load sample cds...

the machine is eventually supposed to be able to burn data CDs with future OS updates

So, as of right now... its only useful to load sounds?

Because I definitely didnt see any form of audio burning functions showing up when I tried to save everything...


So, I guess Im just going to have to stock up on the 512 mb flash cards then... I had thought this drive would be my saving drive.. but, I guess its just a sample loader then... disappointing

Even the maxed out hard drive isnt big enough to save more than a few beats worth...


Oh...and explain how I'd go about burning the audio cd...assuming id ever want to do that without any form of final mixing outside of the mpc...

ajax, i feel ur dissapointment. im gonna cop the largest flash card i can pretty soon.

will say...one of my boys is geeked at the fact that you can load samples from cds with 'ease'. i dont understand it, but for some people thats supposedly an improvement. the way they push those 'dr dre /kayne/neptunes sound cds on ebay..there must be a market there. me? if i cant sample it from vinyl...i hesitate to use it...but its a new day.


but yea...unless u youre beats are extra hot, unmixed, the cd-rom as extra flare/marketing.

you can get a 100GB hard drive. that's 100,000MB! each project can only be a maximum of 128MB so that's about 781 projects. depends how fast you are i guess, but you ain't gonna fill that up anytime soon.

Where is the "burn audio" cd capability showing up on the mpc anyway?


Is there a "mode" "burn" function pad or something? I might wanna try out that feature at least to see what it sounds like. But, Im having a hard time believing that you can't save data and sounds (APS/whatever) on the cd-rw. Why the flowers else would it be CD-RW then? Thats retarded (much like my questions in this thread, but you know).

so you're maxing out you RAM??!! man that's crazy. i don't think the cd writer would help anyway. it'd only be for saving files just like the hard drive and the cf card anyway. the onlything that holds the sample data when you're working on a track is the RAM.

Well... I maxed the RAM because I wanted to make damn sure I could always have enough room in any one sitting to sample in sounds, no matter how long...

With the 2000xl there were plenty of times the RAM didnt cover the sampling I needed...

I didnt max the hard drive because I copped the cd-rw drive, which I figured would be more than enough saving data capabilities for my needs...especially with the flash card drive built in....

as for the hard drive... I dont really want to keep all my files on the hard drive anyway...god forbid it crashes and I lose it all. I prefer to have a disk library that I can take from place to place...load onto someone elses machine...hold onto if the machine busts down...etc



Either way...at this point, the cd drive just seems a bit superfluous, if I cant save data on it...which was the whole point of all this... it didnt work for CD-R's... so, unless it works for CD-RW's only, then you cant even use it like you use the flash card drive...
