i think you must always format in the mpc, otherwise you can get trouble. it CAN work when formatting on a pc or mac, but, to be safe, always format on the mpc. if you cannot do this with your current cards as you suggest, try formatting them on a pc to FAT16 if you can, then put them in the mpc and format them there. this doesn't sound like a cf drive problem to me, it just sounds like you've overwritten files too much, and screwed up the organisation of the files on the card. hope this helps.

Mr Modnar, thanks for trying but none of that worked either :(
As far as I can see it must be the MPC's internal cf reader??
It's not even formatting properly....

I'm s***ing myself that I spend £80 on a HD and that won't work either!

ok, sorry it didn't help. can you return the mpc? ie did you buy it new, less than a year ago? describe exactly what you are doing when you format the card onm the pc, the mac and the mpc, and also put down exactly what comes up on the screen if anything. cheers.

I format the cf on a pc (FAT not FAT32)
Then I format it on the MPC
Then I put it into the MAC (at this stage even the name of the disc when it is formatted by the mpc is obviously corrupt)

Then I drag and drop a folder with a project on it onto the CF
When I look at it on the Mac or PC everything is fine, I can even audition files
But when I view it on the MPC, it takes ages to come up (like 10 seconds) and when it does, all the file and folder names are corrupt and nothing will load.

ok, so you're not plugging the mpc into the mac, but you're taking out the cf card, and plugging it into a card reader on the mac? that may be the problem, i've heard that mac's cause problems if you don't plug the mpc into it. i can't tell for sure though, i don't have a mac. anyone else out there with a mac that can help with this? can macs even read fat16? :?

Did some searching on this forum and found threads concerning
"new folder bug" and directory errors and saving problems.
Seems to be working again.
I'm hoping what I was experiencing was due to my saving over continuously and creating new folders when saving!

But I'm anxious cos' yesterday it wasn't saving properly even after formatting

I'm OK for now, fingers crossed, but not convinced.
It's all been a bit random. Still think my MPC's CFdrive is dodgy :(

the cf card slot on the mpc is only a connector, all the electronics are on the mainboard, if it were to be faulty, you'd have to replace the mainboard. the cf drive is only supplied as a spare because it's possible to bend and break the pins on it.

we could guess all day long on the different things that caused his issue.

no, i'm just trying to say it's more likely to be the folder issue that the current os has. i haven't heard of anyone having issues that are definately the cf card drive, other than broken pins. that, and telling you that if eventually it turned out to be the drive, the drive electronics are all on the mainboard, so replacing the drive, wouldn't help, but as i said, i don't think it's the drive/mainboard.

Been running tests, everythingz fine for the moment.
Thanks chaps.

You just gotta be careful and super organised with these babies and backup to computer regularly i think. The whole system seems a bit shaky to me,
but it rocks all the same.

Akai machines always were a bit shaky (remember MESA??)
Shaky but wicked.

shaky like a bloke running along a razor blade: one slip up, and he's fukt. (though, his woman won't be anymore!)
