u should take note that i don't appreciate ure played out wise cracks because they aren't clever enough to even make a single person of sound mind smirk . so keep ure oh so witty comments to ureself mr modnar aka mr chuckles mic-thread-huckster. u r not kewl and ure comments aren't as witty as u may believe them to be. comedy takes talent this is unquestionable so here is some advice 4 u "hustle now, then ball later" and if u follow that philosophy with monthly payments maybe with a little work u 2 can be hillarious.

When i talked to the salesperson at the store he told me NEC's are actually the best lcd's giving u the best contrast / colour reprsentation. NEC's are typically priced a lil bit higher. at the store they had the different lcd's all lined up and the NEC's really looked nicer, bettr casing, etc.
yeah sooner or later i will get a mpc 60 stand but i need to buy the quiklok ws550 keyboard stand Image When i'm at the keys the X stand really cuts down on leg mobility. my list of what i need to complete the studio is 1) quiklok ws550 2) midi breath controller 3) pedals for the kx88 4) max out my computers RAM 5) buy mpc 60 stand 6) a nice record player ( i got a record player right now but to stop it from spinning i gotta unplug it cause the stop button doesn't work ) B4 i started buying music gear i wrote down what i wanted to be able to do and what gear I would need to accomplish this goal so that in the future I would know when to stop buying gear.

the stand on the top right would be dope for you. You would be able to put your mpc above your keyboard and have a whole keystation/drumstation.

this setup is what you call vintage!

By Flux302 Wed May 03, 2006 11:55 am
yeah i play it at that angle it actually does me good like that... i like for everything to be in arms reach. the mixes tend to sound ok (i have to mix down with the doors open) i have some sound proofing in the corners and ceiling. vocals tend to be mixed low so i have to compensate for that. but bass and all that tends to be damn near dead on.

How you like them monitors? You think they worth the benjamins?

you get what you pay for when you buy monitors. I've read how a lot of people buy KRK's or cheaper monitors and because its their first pair they claim that the monitors are great, and this type of proclamation is true in the context of a biased comparison to an old pc monitors. There are no cheap substitutions is basically what i'm saying. If you want/need an accurate representation of your sound you need quality parts and that cost money. The next step above those mackie hr824's is basically genelecs and those are just too pricey for me. Another good company which is really not too well known is http://www.nhtpro.com/ . they make good durable clean sounding monitors but they are pricey, and i don't believe they are mass produced i may be wrong about that.

A warning tho to future monitor consumer two different sales people told me not to buy Event TR8XL because there is a flaw in their design. I was told that some drum or other high pitched sounds get caught in that opening on the monitors and bounce around and basically from getting trapped at the opening it turns the sound into a high pitched click or pop.

I went with the different peices of vintage gear for different reasons, but mainly production costs where higher and gear was more expensive post 90's so there was an overall increase in quality durability and parts. The kx88 is a work horse and its claim to fame is the most realistic piano feel. The eiii cost 15 grand in 1988 and was built to be a low priced conteder against synclavier and cmi fairlight, 100 grand and up workstations which got you instant work if you had them. Eiii also has 16 independent analog filters for its 16 mono outs and those 16 analog filters go to its stereo outs 2. Emu spent so much money in research and development for the eiii that it tanked their company. When people complain about the eiii its because they are tired of having to pull out the four motherboards and reseat the chips. Basically buy gear that won't break and that you will never have a reason for selling

That's why i'm dubious of taking monitor advice of forums and stuff.

You get people saying M-Audio BXs and Behringer Truths are great but surely there must be a reason they're so cheap?

I'm really not sure what to go for. I dont want to spend £1000 on monitors rigght now as i've got other stuff i need but it's hard to know where to draw a line.

i myself have not been to any audio schooling, however a couple of very good friends of mine have and also have their own studio's. they both agree the truths sound great (as do i) and i've had a chance to a b them with krk (wich i personaly thought were great and almost bought)
with m audio's (so so monitors)
and with mackie's (over priced sounded good though harsh at times)
bottom line from what i've noticed is (especially wen using the "industry standard" yamaha ns10's) you get used to what sounds "right" in that particular monitor. and you master and mix around that. no matter how good the monitor is. (hence the idea of everyone using ns10's even though they technically sound like crap.)
