Which is better for hiphop..a Roland RS-70 or a Microkorg?Pl

I am looking to add a synth to my mpc2xl,turntable & mixer setup and am considering a Roland RS-70 or a microkorg. I checked both websites for sounds and am leaning toward the RS-70. I also went to my local guitar center and tried both out but cant seem to get into the microkorg. I would appreciate feedback on both from people who own or have used both. I would be using the synth for hiphop production..

It all depends on what type of sounds you are using them for, you can shape your own sounds on the microkorg with it's editing, and the Roland has some good sounds in it too, it depends on what you want, don't be influenced by what others say, go with whichever one you liked when you played them...

go with the RS-70. It has some very nice sounds on it and Roland products are real easy to use.

The RS-70 is a toy.

The microkorg is an advanced sound engine from the popular MS2000. a good VA also, its synthesis technique allows for some pretty awesome sounds.



again, the roland is a toy rompler, with the typical crap Roland sounds as ever. you might be happy with the rs70, but god help your soul if thats the case. roland gear sounds like a casio.

I'd say go with the Microkorg. But honestly, for hip hop you can use any setup, it's all how you want your sound to go. It's all how you use it!

There is no gear that is better for anything.. the worst instrument can be used to create something good.. even a broken one! A synth shouldn't be judged on the sounds, unless your into presets. You can take wack sounds and flip then into whatever you imagination is capable of. Sometimes, I will look for sounds in my keyboard that I've never used, and make em usable. I have gear that I used to think was horrible, that I now use (mainly beacause I want it to pay for itself if I sell a beat). Try out whatever your interested in, and see if it fits your needs. Guitar center has a 30 refund policy, so you can always return anything you don't like. If it's used, read reviewe on the net, BUT don't be fooled by folks that actually own it.. some give anything they spent their money on 5 out of 5 stars, and then you have others that give poor reviews because they didn't understand how to use it in the first place. I wasted a lot of money on stuff that other people recommended, and it turned out to be garbage. MPC + a turntable can make some great music.. any a keyboard/synth, and you should be all set. Get a decent mixer, and a way to record, and your ready for the big leagues.

Yo you hit the nail on the head.

If your'e looking for an affordable analog modeling synth go with the Microkorg, if you're looking for a synth with a more "general use" sound set(bass, keys, strings, percussion, guitars, etc.) I'd go with the Roland. Keep in mind that the Microkorg is not multi-timbral so you'll only be able to sequence one track at a time(or sample the sounds you create) where as the Roland is capable of multi-timbral operation.

Just because the Neptunes posed up with one? Seems to be the only explanation...

Synthwise there are a lot of contenders that do the same job lots of better than the microkorg for even lesser money...
invest a little time...

i dont know anything about the hype in regards to the microkorg but i do know that i was in some synth store here in barca and i started to play with the thing and i was making some ill ass sounds....dont really know what the **** i was doen or the parameters that i was changing but it sure seemed like the power was pretty crazy

i was seriously thinking about getting the microkorg too. never knew it was a "hot item". looked like it had some tight features. anyone else have any personal opinions on it? i'm looking for a new synth to use with my mpc 2k, so also let me know any other (reasonable $$) recommendations you may have.

it sounds really good, but I'd rather get the MS2000, it has the same sound engine and more features plus a better interface.

They are too close in price to pick the micro unless you want small keys and cuteness.

I'd go for the rack to keep it small.

Minikeys are, unless you've got really small fingers / excellent motor skills, a real downer.

i passed the microkorg up in favor of the RolandSH32. it's polyphonic, synth stackable and has a nice set of user controlled rhythm sets in addition to the arppegiator. a bit of power from the 8080 series.

at $250 USD you can't reall go wrong, save that you'll need a controller.

OK, no matter what, you will never find that ONE tool, that will be "the best" for what ever it is you are doing. I think the answer to this question, would be some sort of mix between these two boards, or maybe even something entirely different.

I have the microkorg, and I absolutely love the fat analogue bass sounds that can be created, but I am rather limited in other catagories. I have decided it is now time to get a new synth in addidtion to the microkorg.

I think I will be using the micro as primarily, a bass generator, and whatever else I decide to get, for the melody.
