Cross fade looping

I am pretty up to speed with drum samples, wondered if their is a nack to sampling a string or piano, I have a mpc as well as s950 sampler so can do it on either i s'pose.
I have tried sampling on the s950 have got it into loop mode, adjusted the start(fine) adjusted the end (fine) play it back and it glitches, have tried x fading and cant seem to see an improvement
i took a sample of a singer laaaa. sorta thing, perhaps i should start smaller?
please advise...
it loops like a drum loop would loop but with the constant change in pitch and sound with vocals it kind of sounds odd,. perhaps i should get a different sample in there, or stop sampling off old records and buy some sample cds. although i like the idea of looking for stuff.

why loop it? if you are sampling something like that you should assign the sample to a pad and just play it in the beat as you need it. Not sure of the functions of the s950 but on any mpc you can assign to pads. BTW, you don't need to use sample cd's, the mpc is a sampler, sample records, movies, basically anything you can hook up to/ mic into your mpc. keep experimenting.

yeah. I perhaps made a mistake with piano but a pad would be nice. I sampled some records and found a nice string sound, used the x fade feature but still sounded a bit jumpy as it sycles.

oh and some vox as well but that was really hard to loop as it had vibrato on it and it was as mad as a bag of toads

you just gotta understand that some sounds are WAY harder to loop than others. Practice will get you to understand this.

cheers lampdog, i guess if it was easy - everyone would be doing it. ive been loopin stuff on a computer for a while but only beats, but orchestra sounds and pads are well hard to do

In a wave editor if you actually zoom in and LOOK at the shape of a string verses say a piano note, you'll see that the piano note can be looped easier. The string shape can be looped but you end up getting ALOT more wave cycles in your loop due to complex dynamics of a string.

At least that's what I've seen.
