It could be that you email isn't reaching the folks that actually program the OS.

The best way to get a message to Akai is to write here in the forums....you can also fax Akai Japan. You may not get a response though...but I do believe that are listening....

sry to come in so late on the thread, I agree with you Jahrome thats a good way of doing it. if i could:D my budget just stretched far enough to get the mpc2500 itself

Antonym wrote:right. gotcha.

i layer all my kicks, all the time...and have never run into this. i always use a deep bassy kick for body and a "skin" of a kick from a record for...well, skin. the skin is low volume, the body is high volume/pitched down. their frequencies never overlap this way, and the result is clean and sounds good. later on, i compress this down. the result is a decently accoustic drum hit that bangs harder than just the original skin would have - and the compression melts everything together nicely. roll off the bottom end, boost it around 160 (before compression, of course) and you're damn near good to go.

if only i was as good at layering snares.

see thats the thing... the "skin" is the part of the kick over like 200hz. what if i like the skin of one of my samples but the bottom end phucks with the others? thats where simult and seperate filters come in. it sounds like alot of other producers use this too. yeah, i could do some workaround like hitting a bunch of pads at once or going in and manually putting stuff in in step edit, but why? most people like the mpc for the quick workflow, why take features away?

yeah the work around for this takes twice the amount of time for me to do with the 2500 ...with the 2000 my drums were layered and filtered seprately in a FLASH

they must return this feature with the new os update aswell as some bugs that people have been complaing about

lets just hope they are listining

jahrome wrote:Yes they will share the same filters when you layer them in the 2500 (as discussed in a recent thread :D ). However, when you are talking about filters in an MPC 2000XL, they are far from remarkable. Evem in the 2500, that are just ok.

I always thought by processing your sounds before you sampled them you addd xtra noise to the overall mix

any chance I could hear a sample

What I like to to is get my drums/samples sounding right before I sample them with an MPC. I use external EQ and filters, analog compression, etc on my drums and then sample them into the MPC. I get much better results than soley using the filters in an MPC.

and your point in that quote?

some people take other steps in making their drums sound how they want them.

I d still wanna see seprate filters per layer ....or at least let us trigger other pads with one pad

Would be cool to see this feature.

But me personaly, i find using grid edit for this is fine. I've never used any other MPC so i've nothing to compare it to but i find grid edit quick, easy and accurate
