newbie..yaaaay

peep it im new to the mpc 2kxl period. i know you dudes hate the same questions over and over and rightfully so...i understand how to connect my keyboard and use it as the controller for the xl..also i read that novel of a manual a few times so i get the button pushing objectives.but i mean this zip drive is messin me up so bad ..it says zip100 on the xl..inside the manual it says that the drive takes 2hd and 2DD, isnt a 2hd a standard 3.5 floppy that all computers have.logistically it would seem you get your sounds from the comp buy an external zip100 and the right 2DD disks?? save them to zip and pop them in the mpc and trim ect.??.also the search the forums thing doesnt work that well i click a thread and like 2 posts come up..anyways clarification would be appricaitated ..thank you

the mpc comes fitted with a floppy drive. you have to install an internal zip drive if you want to use zip disks.

have a look on MPC Tutor at the zip drive installation tutorial. it is easy to follow and worked fine for me

If you get your sounds like that then all you need to do is make sure you save them as wav files on the external zip drive then transfer it over to the mp.......if you have a 100mb drive you buy a 100mb disk.....if you have a 250mb drive you buy a 250mb disk......just to keep it all simple

yeah, the main use for even having the zip drive (besides basic on-the-MPC-storage) is the ability to bring that zip disk back and forth between the MPC and a PC.

you can do all your sampling on a PC, directly off a CD (or whatever). then trim it in a full blown audio app (instead of using the wheel & limited editing functions on the MPC), and save it on the zip disk on your PC. sampling on the PC, then trimming on the MPC would be stupid, because the PC has a much more "robust" trimming system. you could go ahead and normalize the sounds and do EVERYTHING on the PC, and then just export the final versions of each sound to the MPC.

at the MPC, load all your beautiful sounds you've created off the zip, and assign each one to a different pad on the MPC.
