REALLY LOST WITH MIDI

WHATS UP MPC HEADS,

I came here because you all really helped when it came to buying the right equipment and everything needed to get started producing and i really appreciated that.
Now i am currently having problems using the "ROLAND XV5050" midi sound module. I have it connected to my MPC2000xl and i am not using any computer software yet. I have everything hooked up right and i am getting sounds but i was wondering how do you have different sounds on different tracks using the module and mpc. What should my settings be on in order to do this. And how do i change these settings.

EX.

Tr. 1 Piano
Tr. 2 Strings
Tr. 3 guitar
etc.

Normally ur sound module will have a Multi or Performance mode, where you can select Multiple voices on it. I don't have the Xv5050, but as long as its multitimbral, you should be able to do this.

You should be able to to set a separate MIDI channel for each sound/voice on the module.

Then, on the MPC, you need to go to the bottom left corner and change where it says DRUM1 to MIDI. Cursor accross to OFF and set to the appropriate MIDI channel number. As the MPC has 2 MIDI outs u can select from 1A-16A or 1B-16B, depending on what out is connected to ur module.

Program ur sound.

Move to the next track, and set to the next MIDI channel, and so on.............

Once u use it, it becomes very simple.

do you know if that works with the kaoss pad II aswell?

no. kaoss pad can only send control changes (1-31 & 64-95), program changes (0-99)...

I really apreciate the info but I am still confused and i dont know what settings to change in the ROLAND xv 5050. is there any other suggestions?

All I can suggest is checking the manual for the 5050 or a 5050 forum for guidance on the Multi mode.
