I have the 1000. I do like it, and I am fairly satisfied with it. However I do have a PC with Cool Edit Pro and I just got Acid Pro 4.0. which I still have to play with and read the manual.
But to tell you the truth if I didn't have a P.C. as well I think I would have thrown this machine out the F%^$^%^ window. It's not as easy and intuitive as others like to say. It takes a long time and hard work to master. If you haven't used an MPC before your in for a surprise no matter which one you get. It will not make your work easy, or make you work faster, in fact it does the opposite. The main things about any MPC is the fact that you can "tap" out your beats, have a nice Phat sound with punch, and they give you the same professional sound that you hear on 90% of Hip Hop albums since the 90's, maybe even before. The effects are not what makes the MPC the studio standard that it is today. If you get an MPC your going to be much happier if you have something else for effect: a program, a mixer, keyboard, anything else for effects.
The only real differences, I think, between any of the MPC models is between the 4000 and every other model. The 4000 is the only one that really has features that make it exceptional compared to the others. 2000xl has timestretch and reverse, but everyone complains about how bad the timestretch sucks and how long it takes, and who has made a dope beat with reverse..... well not since like 1990?! (The Salaam Remi track on Nas' album does not count that track was WIGGEDY WIGGEDY WACK!)
That's my thoughts on the subjects. Hope it helps! I very sure I would feel the same way about any MPC. I actually think I would be very frustrated if I didn't have the USB feat. that the 1000 has, it makes life so less complicated and cheaper too!
