Chopping solos or song pieces??

Hello, i am quiet new to the sampling game,
and i have a few question about chopping.
I see no problem to take some solo parts (like piano, trumpet etc.) slice them and play around...as they will be replayed alone as notes..
but you often try to sample some parts of the song where there are a few instruments like bass-hi-hats etc.?
If yes, do you always try to match you beat tempo with the original song tempo, or just play around until it sounds cool..?
Sometime i sample some riffs, slice them, make a whole new melody, for 4 beats, but i am stuck as i do not know how to evolve that melody...

Yes, experiment with what YOU like the sound of, not what other people like.

You don't have to match your tempo to the loop. Try getting it to fit your tempo by changing the original pitch. You could try this with extreme settings to experiment. You may find something that works.

If you want to get the loop to fit your tempo without changing the pitch, then use timestretch.
