I'm thinking about buying an akai z8...
Can I record sequences via midipads and build songs on it that way, just like on MPC1000?

If anyone here has this sampler, can you please share your experience of it??

Yes, but you will need to sequence it from another source as I believe the Z8 does not have an inbuilt sequencer.

If you have computer w/soundcard running some sequencing software then you can hook up the z8 via midi and sequence it off your puter.

I don't know the specifics of the Z8, but that sort of sampler is powerful enough to load up vast amounts of multisampled sounds for doing complete orchestrations on. A bit overkill if you want to just trigger a few loops and maybe a few of multisample programs.

I don't know what your looking for in a sampler, but you could get something for a fraction of what the Z8 costs if you're looking for something to play a few sounds and loops.
