one set of RCA outs on mixer making recording difficult

I use a typical 3 channel DJ mixer (Stanton RM-THREE) with only one set of rca outs. The struggle im having is im using those outs to go to my reference monitors, so when I try to record out to my Mbox1 i either have to unhook my monitors, and use an RCA to 1/4 cable into my mbox, and hear no sound during recording (a hassle to hook and un-hook everytime) or I'm now using an RCA splitter to turn the one set of RCA's into two, and my Mbox can barely pick up the sound.

Am I using my Mbox incorrectly? Which port do you guys use on back of yours? and which extension (mic,line or inst?) do you use? Is there some setting inside of ProTools I'm missing where you tell it which port your using?

Any help would be greatly appreciatedas this problem has kinda killed my motivation for making tracks at the moment.

Equipment you might wanna know: MPC2000XL, Mbox1. ProTools LE, Mac Powerbook G4, belt drive table, Stanton RM-THREE mixer, KRK monitors.

Why not connect monitors to OUTS on mbox and dj mixer RCA to 1/4 to the INs on the mbox. Am i missing your point?

No, I don't think you are. That is a good idea.

The other method is to use some headphones in your mixer. That way you can monitor your mixer/decks with no latency, and hook up the outputs of the mixer into the M-box as normal.

Thats a good idea about using the Mbox outs for the monitors. I guess the only reason i might not have done that in the past is because I would have to have my computer powered up with the usb plugged and ProTools running everytime i use my MPC, not just when recording. i like being able to just have my mpc, mixer, and monitors on when im working.

Can some of you guys elaborate on what source you plug into on the back of your Mbox's to record? Sometimes when i open protools, and create a new track, and enable recording on the track, the EQ doesnt indicate any sound coming into the mbox, and i have to try plugging into every port until i find one (or sometimes none) that registers sound into my protools track. If this is too off topic, and you know a good ProTools resource feel free to post that too.

maybe it is possible to use the mbox standalone with a little powered usb hub as power source. dunno if the mbox can be operated without a software, but the knobs are all there...

my Mbox is standalone, and usb powered, and i use ProTools software. I'm not really sure what you meant with your response, but I appreciate the help nonetheless.
