How do some of you guys organize your collections?

Genre? Alphabetical by band/artist? Or by what sounds they have on them that you can sample? Like all the records with breaks on them together or something? Just wondering what works for others. My shit is a mess I need to organize them soon.

I mostly name my samples with T or TV (TV), CL (Classic music), VIO (Violine), BD (Bass Drum) and so on...
The second part any any of my samples´ name is the date when it was recorded.

Example: BD120506 1B

This prevents me from double-naming a sample in different programs.
Unfortunately, it´s not easy to remind the actual sample that is related with such a code.

...but I see you were actually talking about records.
I don´t organize them at all.
But that´s a good idea, thank you.

you gotta diversify your funds!

i'll never alphabetize my records, never. My dad did, and the cat went over in the corner and peed on his records... well, he had them alphabetized right? every beatles record still smells like vaguely like feline urine. No joke. Almost funny, but no joke...

So i just have them all over the place everywhere... nobody else has a chance of finding a particular record, but i'm pretty good at it... the closer the record is to the turntables, the more recently it was played, the better chance I have of remembering where it is...

but I have little blocks here and there that all go together and make sense in my mind...

but no alphabetizing never no no no
