midi timecode

i just purchased the 2500. when i was using the 2000xl i used midi time code so i could record my drum sequences in the mpc and play my midi instruments in protools. so the mpc was the slave. how can i use midi time code in the 2500(not midi beat clock,cause it doesn't loop around that way)?

No MTC with the current OS. Pro Tools should be able to adapt to MIDI clock of the 2500.

i feel you,but the sync kinda acts up in midi beat clock mode,when i lay my instrument sequenes in protools and have my drums sequence in the mpc playing along,it's almost like it's slightly off even though both the mpc and protools are set to the same tempo.i have to double the instrument sequence all down the grid so the mpc could keep playing without stopping and the further down the grid it gets, one or the other seems like it's lagging.

dont know if its the same with protools but in cubase you can 'nudge' the timing forward and backward.
like i say i dont know if there is anything like this in tools, but i'd imagine there was.

I feel you Thai. I have the same workflow with midi instruments, I also track traditional instruments as well in protools. I seriously can't believe more users don't **** about this.

What I think Thai's saying is that he doesn't timecode lag...It's more like the midi data gets decifered in Protools a bit differently when slaved. It's disapointing for your drums when you spend 30 mins getting them to feel perfect on the MPC, press play in protools and hear something quite different. So basically.......if you have a DAW that you want to sync to, a 2500 is pretty useless.

Unfortunatly is a midi clock vs. MTC issue......since the 2500 doesn't have MTC I think were f**ked. I've spent months trying to find a work around. Seriously thinking of getting rid of my 2500 for this very reason.

I have a software based DAW. I sequence everything (samples, sound modules, VST instruments, etc) on the MPC. Then I multitrack my completed sound into Nuendo (or insert your favorite software here). Then I can mix within my DAW. I can also record additional instruments within my software..

i solved the problem(i think). go to preferences and check the midi beat clock box and uncheck the midi time code. anything having to do with mtc or mmc uncheck it. this fixed the timing problem. but you can't loop around,you have to copy paste down the grid so the mpc could keep playing and looping along with your instrument sequence. that's how i do it,play all my stuff in the protools sequencer,logic,etc... and just record my drums with the mpc. now who knows about how the master level inside the mpc is suppose to be set? oh,and who knows how to get rid of that dam pop that occurs every now and then?

Jahrome, your technique works, but if I understand your method correcty it's not what I need. Your method sounds like it doesn't link up in sequence to your daw. Even though your recording, if you wanteed to edit after the fact things wouldn't align in the DAW grid. I like to post arrange in the DAW.

Thai...I'll check out your settings and see if it helps. Hope it does. The pops I can't help with. Hopefully Akai will get on that shit by the next OS upgrade. As far as the master level goes, I always go a bit softer on my mix, usually -6. Always good to have headroom.

but at -6 my kicks and snares seem to loose alittle juice. i need my stuff knocking.

Damn. It didn't work. Did as you said. Things are ALMOST synced. My hats are a bit off on the sync when played back in protools. So wierd......Everything lines up on the one count. It's all the shifted notes and such that seem to drift slightly. They sound nice and tight when just played with the MPC.

Could you post your Protools settings when you get some time?

This machine seriously has about 1 month left before I snap and sell.
