MPC triggering S950 problems

program the bass drum, then add the snare when it goes round onto overdub mode, all nice so far. then i STOP and hold down overdub and hit the pad assigned to the Hat put it to 1/8 timing and hit the pads until the end of the loop, play it back and the kick and snare are lower in volume when the hat plays on top. why is this?

I am using the MPC at the moment as a midi controler and the sound source is a akai s950 btw.

are u using the same out on the s950 for all three sounds? if so, maybe is better to track em out to different outs (u do it in the edit program last page of the 950)
its strange, im using mpc and s950 as well and never encountered any trouble.
i use different outs like this:
1-kick
2-snare
3-overhead & charlie

yeah you got it! I have been doing that, I have been using the MPC for drums and the s950 for every thing else over the last few days and that seems good. I am gonna give it another try with your suggestion...

Do you prefere the s950 for the sounds? what id been doing the other day is recording it on the s950, and then re record it into the MPC, cant seem to find a sample dump on the s950. Id it pains me a bit to not use the mpc much because that cost me £600 and the s950 cost £60. but that should not influence really!

Id be very in tewrested to hear your opinions.

This is how sample dump works on the S 950:

-enter EDIT SAMPLE modus and select the sample that you want to send.
-press "0", "OFF" and "ON" simultaniously.
The flashing red light will now stop to flash.
-press either "PAGE" or send a request message from a connected MIDI device.
The selected sample will now be sended.
-when the sending is completed, hit "ENTER" and the red light will continue flashing.

To receive a sample on the S 950 you just have to send it from a connected device.
The S 950 will receive it automatically.
(Better enter the EDIT SAMPLE modus before receiving a sample, I don´t know if it also works in the other menus).

The S 950 is only able to receive samples from a unit that uses the same old sample dump standard, like a S 900 or a MPC 60.
Samples can not be received by newer samplers like, for example, the MPC 2000XL.
Sample dump signals from newer devices can destroy the S 950´s sample data and can lead the S 950 to crash.

i usually use the 950 for short sounds (percussive) for 2 reasons:

1- i have not the memory expansion, so im workin with 750 kb of ram, and it fills up pretty fast....

2- i like the crunchyness of that 12bit variable bandwidth sampling, drumhits and break slices are comin out really devilish from that old machine.

so on the mpc i put some more clear sounding drums (like realistic drumhits with natural reverb), orchestral sounds, loopz and all that must come out a bit more hifi.

I have sampled it on the s950 (drum kits) and re sampled into the mpc. is this still an ok option? I find that I like to work with a standard 5 kicks 8 snares and 10 hats so they are saved onto zip and ready to go.

I find schanging all the midi on the mpc time consuming. is the s950 ok for pads and stuff or would that be a bit whack?
