ZIP PROBLEMS?

Ok here's what happened that led up to my problem... I have an MPC 2000

My friend brought over his old 100 MB zip and his new 250 MB zip drive to my house. He hooked up his new drive and loaded a beat. It worked fine. After we were done, he unhooked the zip(without turning off the MPC). He gave me his old 100 MB zip drive to have and said it worked fine... So I tried to hook the zip drive a couple of days later and it would not work. When I go to load or save, the screen says 'wait' and freezes forever. The other thing I noticed is that, in the past, if I turned on the MPC without the startup disk in it, the MPC will search through SCSI 1-2-3-4-and so on and then say 'insert disk' NOW the screen just blurs and starts searching at SCSI 7. Then it says insert disk...

I have heard that you should never disconnect a ZIP drive from the MPC while the MPC is on. Could that be the problem and what can I do to fix it?

You blew your SCSI Fuse, take it to a tech. Bring money.

You can set the primary device (The device you want the MPC to communicate with 1st).... In my case thats ATAPI (My zip).....Maybe you got it on SCSI so its searching for a response from that device but theres no OS boot up on it - Just a thought!

If need be, change your primary device to floppy - That way, maybe you can leave the Boot disk in the floppy drive so your OS boots up off the floopy 1st, then you can trying loading up via your SCSI device afterwards.

NB* Make sure the SCSI device number is set to any other than 6 then use the same device number in the MPC...Make these alterations whilst the MPC is off.

If........You have blown this fuse (Did you disconnect the cable whilst the MPC was on) your gonna have to get it looked at by a specialist that stocks the fuse needed to replace it. Word has it that these fuses are like gold dust so you might be down for quite some time.

Another thing worlwise, make sure you're not trying to load a 250MB zip into that 100MB drive. It will not work! a 100MB will work in a 250MB but not the other way around.

I bought 4 MPC fuses from an electronics retailer, had it shipped from coast to coast in two days, and still was under $10.

If you put the OS on a zip disk it loads from the zip and it's like the new default drive. To do this you just have to put the os on the zip, and when you power up, turn on the zip drive WITH the zip with OS in it, before you power it up, and after that you power up the mpc and it searches thu the scsi for the os on zip and starts up.

how big of a hassel is it to put the fuse in?
