sorry to do this, but another ZIP problem here!

so I finally got my mpc2000 today. the guy I got it from had the OS 1.00 on it but lost the boot disk. so I downloaded the latest OS v1.72, saved it on my HD (win 2k, NTFS). I got a USB zip drive which works perfectly, so I formatted my zip to FAT and put just the 2 mpc OS files on it.

I also bought three SCSI zip drives on ebay recently (the guy was sellin three at once and it was a good deal), hooked one up to the MPC, started it, mpc recognized my Iomega zip drive, yay.

BUT! when I put in the zip disk with the OS files, the drive behaves normally (just like the usb one, only that all 3 scsi drives make a louder humming noise), but the MPC goes on to ID 7 and then just keeps saying "insert mpc 2000 disk" And it's the same thing with the other two zip drives!!! what the hell is goin on?

the man who sold me the scsi drives didnt have an scsi port on his pc, and neither do I, so I cant be positive they read correctly. but he got em from a friend who assured him they worked, and they dont seem to be broken, so is there any other plausible explanation for my problem????

i just load the OS off a floppy works fine, I havent tried loading the OS off a zip before. Since I have the scsi now I just leave the os disk in the floppy drive and load everything else from the zip drive

thats not the point!

I forgot to add that my floppy drive's broke and I dont really plan on buyin a new one, so dont gimme that.
Anyway why I asked this was becos if my zip drive cant load the OS it prolly wont load samples either, so I need to know what could be the problem!!!??

you need to calm down with the attitude, oh and I just tried loading the OS off of a zip disk, it didnt work for me either but it loads my samples just fine. So maybe someone else will come along and enlighten us both how to do this or maybe they'll see your attitude and not want to help you either.

I didnt want to sound ungrateful or anything, sorry, I forgot to say thanks for the reply in any case! (I always do this usually )

what may have sounded a lil harsh is the thing with the floppy drive. I didnt want any smartass to say "buy a floppy drive" (I've heard that one too often, and I must save every penny after borrowing so much cash for the mpc) cos that'd be totally besides the point, as my question only concerns my zip drives.

and the thing with your zip, very strange.. even in the manual it says you can boot your mpc via scsi, but it doesnt say anything about format...

its cool, I jump to things too sometimes anyways I'll try to get mine up and running off the zip and let ya know if I get it to work

I got it to work. What I did was formatted the zip disk from the mpc and made a copy of the OS from a floppy to the zip disk all on the mpc. This is going to be a problem for you since you dont have a working floppy drive on your mpc. You may have to get to a friends and format your zip on his also copy the OS from floppy to zip too.

one misunderstanding though: I meant that the floppy on my PC is broken, not the one in the mpc. but that means I cant save the OS on floppy from my pc, and I cant format zip disks from my mpc.

so in the end I still have to do what you said. get the OS on an mpc formatted floppy from somebody else.

one more mystery solved.

Here is the answer.......take the floppy drive out of your mpc and put it in your computer.......save the Os to it.....then take it back apart and put it back into the mpc.....it maybe a little tire-some doing it this way but it will work

no problem playa once you get up and running time to start bangin out tracks

One file is OS (MPC?????.BIN) and the other file is most likely a update PDF history.

i am having the same problem with my zip. on start up the screen jumps to ID 7. when i try to save a sound the screen freezes

2 files: mpc2000.exe and mpc2000.sys

hey, I havent thought of doin that! thanks but I'd be quite reluctant to open the mpc before I know for sure it works..
you sure it will load the OS from a non-mpc formatted floppy? the guy I got it from said the same thing though.
so.. if thats the case, anyone got any idea why it will boot from a non-mpc floppydisk but not from a non-mpc zipdisk? weird..

I dunno its strange if it does, I got my mpc with the disk so I dont know if the guy formatted on his pc or the mpc itself but give it a try dont have anything to lose.
