Which 12 bit sound though?
E-mu's SP1200 12-bit sound is different to that of something like the S950.
You know the bit grunger effect, which level is supposed to emulate 12 bit? I think it goes from 1-8 but usually anything more than 1 sounds horrible. I'm not too keen on it at all myself

the bit grunger is useless in that aspect. it does not emulate lower bit rate sampling at all!! just sounds like a horrible distortion.
nothing is gonna beat actually having a 12 bit machine though.
but if you got a little extra cash check out the boss sp-303. the lo fi
sampling on that actually DOES come pretty damn close to 12 bit sampling.
one way to come closer to it on the 1000 is to take a sample of a drumbreak, tune it up in the program settings by about 10 or 20. resample it in the 1000. then take this spedup sample, put it in a program and tune it back down by the same amount you had originally tuned it up. now you're drums will sound dirtier and more lo-fi....works at least a hell of a lot better than the bitgrunger effect....

I tried to buy one from DJDeals.com because they had them for $879, but they were out of stock so I printed off the price took it to Guitar Center and they did it for $859 and I upgraded the ram to 128 for another $109. Pretty good deal for being new in my opinion. It was the blue one which was a bummer but better than waiting two weeks.

Buy one without the upgraded ram. People want like $800-850 all the time when they upgrade the ram. I don't know why people think if they have ram it's worth $150 to $200 more. And usually it doesn't say if its Akai ram, not that it matters, but if you throw in $30 ram, your mpc isn't really worth more. So save money and then buy your own ram (if you want to) at frys for $30 or so.

I personally looked at the ram stickey, printed out the necessary info, gave it to the guy and he got it for me immediately. $30. You may find cheaper but atleast that way i could take it back if it was wrong.
