2XL Card Reader

2XL's owners,

Ive tried the search function, but not really coming across the name of the connector.

Im bout to install the card reader/writer into my mpc, BUT need to know the name of the connector that connects into the mpc board from the standard pc power connector.

Does anyone know the name so that I could purchase the correct one, properly assembled.... Without having to mess wit diy, soldering and cables.

Hey where did u buy your card reader from?

Just go to the computerstore and ask for a powercable for hd's, cdroms etc. They will give u the right cable if not u can see for urself... don't u have an old pc somewhere? just cut out the cable..i did, works like a charm now...

i dont believe the connector has a name. as far as i know it could be mpc-zip/mcd specific. you basically are going to have to buy one from vst or make it yerself. its so easy to do.

Does anyone know if its a 3 pin or 4 pin connector?

I have found a very similar one!! It's for a PC Fan 3 pin connector.

You can do whats been stated above or contact Nick at VST and tell him u need the power cable but not the kit for a MCD Drive.

yeh i made mine from an old pc, go to a computer market even pick up some old connectors and frankenstien one of them.

No way!!

Prices seem sky high for equipment. Plus im overseas and dont want to purchase from the USA.

The part that connects to the IDE drive is called Molex.
The part that connects to the floppy is called Mini-Molex.

Can't remember how the board connector looks, I don't feel like opening up my 2kxl right now.

That's CHEAPEST way to go, I did it and all it it is twisting red and black together from 2 different connectors.

yea really its SO EASY. by just reading about it on the internet is making it seem like yer being kind of lazy, if you just tried it youd see why its not a big deal. im not trying to hate, but really, you have to just try it.

im also pretty sure the connector on the mpc end is 4 prong, so that fan one might not work.

do like lampdog says, just cut the wires and strip them, twist them together, thats really all it takes but of course a little electrical tape would help. be sure to leave enough wire on the new cord so that it reaches...the first one i made was too short :p

It would be stupid to buy it from vst.... just buy it in a computershop and do as i said. It's like 1usd!

yeah, you can buy the same with 4 pin .
