Mpc 2000Xl and micro korg

Mpc 2000Xl and micro korg

Hi, im sorry if this has been posted in the past. I jus purchased a micro korg and would like to incorporate it with my mpc. 2000xl.. i was wonderin if there was a way of just playing sounds off of the keyboard and allowing them to go directly to the mpc and be incorporated with the sequence im working on... for instance if i have all of my drum sounds assigned to various pads on the pad bank... i could jus record a base line over it ,,, without havin to assign the basesounds to a pad... sorry if this is confusing.. any help fromanyone out there would be greatly appreciated

There is definitely a way of doing exactly what you describe. It's called MIDI. Search for "midi AND keyboard AND record AND connect" to get all the info you need.

but (!) - you can only trigger one soundbank of the micro korg at once...

set the midid channels. the mpc and the microkorg have to be on the same midi channel for the mpc to recieve the data for instance, set the micro korg to send out a sound from midi channel 1. make an mpc track a midi track for the mpc to recieve data from midi channel 1.

microkorg = midi channel 1 (send)

mpc = midi channel 1 (recieve)

but (!) - you can only trigger one soundbank of the micro korg at once...


Thats the downside of the Microkorg, its not multimbral, so it will only allow u to record 1 sound, or 2 if the sound is layered.

Ur connections should be:

Midi In from Microkorg to Midi Out of MPC
Midi Out from Microkorg to Midi In of MPC
Set Midi Channel to 1 on the Microkorg and 1 on the MPC track
Have audio outs of Microkorg running through a mixer with the MPC and u should hear ur sounds

If u aint got a professional mixer, I use a DJ mixer, MPC into Line in 1 and Microkorg into Line in 2, crossfader in the mixer and channels up and your good to go.

Thanks for the help kolonel, after experimenting a bunch of times this example you just listed is the only setup that seemed to work. The only down side is that you can only triger one sound from the korg,, i guess if i had to use other sounds from the korg Id have to record those sounds into the mpc 2000xl and assign it to a pad controling it via midi in the micro korg.

I guess the only question I have is would I be able to triger different sounds out of the micro korg playing them over a sequence in the akai's newer model the mpc 2500.

You'll want to record the microKorg program into a multitrack recorder, not the MPC

i have a microkorg hooked up to my mpc 2500 u should start out with midi cables
