Hi ,

I am contemplating a HD for my 1000 but I am concerned with the heat generation. My Laptop gets HOT, I am pretty sure this is due to the hard drive. Just wondering if there are any heat issues out there.

that's a worthy concern.

however, the hard drive is not always spinning in the 1k - only when loading/saving...

since nothing streams, your hard drive is really only used a couple times.

at least this is the way i understand it.

one way or another though, i noticed no more heat after i put my hd in than before

no heat issues here. like nym said, the HD is only used for loading/saving. i like listening to her crank up when i turn it on and it makes a little beep sound when i power it up now. it used to be dead silent.

im pretty sure laptops dont get hot because of the hardrive....matter afact its the processer that does most of the heat, because it needs a heat sink....see a hardive doenst need a heat sink? Does it make sense now?

I didnt even think about wether or not to get a hardrive....I just bought it and i aint aint complaining yet...So its the best buy...If you only knew how much a LUXARY a hardrive compared to other machines..its a damn gift ya know. SO get it adn nothing will go wrong.

processor would be the hottest without a heat sync - but it wouldnt work without a heat sync - it would destroy its self.

in a laptop?

for some reason i my desktop computer never heats up, i can touch the hardrive and nothing..but the proccessor is heating on mine..

well I would say its constantly warm - if its rotating all the time like it would be in a pc - I guess a vid card would be the main source of heat if your a gamer.

anyway

I wouldnt be concerned about it getting to hot.

None the less fellas, the unit does heat up weather it is the hardrive or the processor. The 1000 frame should have been built with better ventilation like the 2500. There has been issues of overheating so some have used devices used for laptops to keep it cool. It's like a cooling plate some work by way of usb and some I think you just plug into a wall outlet. My mpc1000 tends to get very warm but I havnt had issues as some claim although my partner claimed to have an issue before but i think it was human error on his part because he was just learning the 1000, but who knows. :?
