Whats does the XL have that the 1K doesnt?

Im trying to decide between the two, what do yall like about tha XL that keeps u from wanting/getting a MPC 1K

one thing the XL has that the 1000 doesnt, is me as a loyal fan.

a few off the top of my head.

1000 doesnt have

-no timestretch ( too slow on XL anyway )
-no 8 outs
-pads feel different, stiffer!

XL aint got the portability, my only gripe.

i aint tryna compare, i wana know what the XL users like about their units.
the 1000 has timestretch with the new OS i think, the slowness of the XL is one of concerns, im used to the computer and i like things to load fast
the 1000 seems like a toy to me but its so compatible and portable.

Does the loading time ever become an issue for u?

Loading is never a problem unless some is doing something live.

Other than that, people are just impatient.

XL has never been slow to where it messes up my flow. I can't imagine why people say that, again, maybe they are impatient or they are using it live.

the 2kxl are years old and not a lot of people have too many problems with the pads. the 1k is very young but still i think i hear about them losing pads and stuff already.

the xl basically has time on its side....its been a leader in the game for a while. the new ones really seem to be trying to capitalise on that popularity. however, i think its awesome that the 2500 has lfos. i wish the 2kxl did.

so basically the 2kxl has reliability on its side as well (as time has proven...all the others are too new too really gauge).

The 1000 DOES have timestretch and it's quick too!

The 1000 is much quicker and samples while playing... (i miss that)
More memory (128mb the 2kxl 32mb but that should be enuff)

I switched to a 2000xl cos i only use it to seq midi modules and ish...
And i just like to work on a "machine" instead of a little dwarf... but that's me...

oh and one other thing: U CAN'T audition samples BEFORE "pre-loading" them in the 2kxl...
the 1000 does it.... one thing i really miss to for the few samples i use in the mpc...
But it has made more creative and forces me to use4 the samples i choose before building... i like it better actually... i like to have less options to find a way for myself to make it work... but again that's me....

Just interested, what do you mean? On the XL you can preview the sample before assigning it... But yeah, you have to load it in order to preview it.

So does the 1K stream from the HD???

Not sure if the new OS added this, but I know the original 1k couldn't do velocity variable envelopes (which means more complex programs could not port over from 2k to 1k). This feature allows you to set up much more dynamic pads that can sound more natural - or do crazy things depending how you set it up.

Other features/options I didn't see mentioned that don't transfer over.
-4 channel effects - as oposed to 2
-smtpe - essential studio tool
-scsi - easy hook up for cd-rom, zip, hd, and other drives.
-rom card - samples permanently loaded into memory

1k is great for portability and live... they just should have included a battery to make it REAL portable

yeh word to that mcsmooth, the card reader has really brought the 2kXL up to speed for changing samples between pc and so forth, it does everything i need, if i really wanna start mangling sounds i look towards the e4xt or s3200xl. yeh the mpc1000 should be hand cranked or something. and the resampling feature is something the 2kXL would benefit greatly from.

i guess im jus hung up on the 1k pads, their so small tha thing looks like a toy
