Its funny. When I decided to buy a new 2000xl and saw that it had been discontinued, I was bummed.. kinda fell into the 2500 by default..

Now that Ive used it for a week or two.. Im pumped... this thing has capabilities that the xl never dreamed of (it also has limitations that the xl didnt have, but nothings perfect)...

Im lovin it so far...

With the release of the latest OS, there are very few functions that the XL has and the 2500 doesn't. On the flip side, there are more than 1-2 dozen features the 2500 has that the XL doesn't.

Both are great machines..by the way. The 2500 still needs an OS update or two (or 3 or 4) before it is 100% solid/dependable.

I agree. With the most recent update this machine is becoming murderous.
All the features the xl have will be in the 2500 sooner or later the way it is or even better, I'm sure of that, especially since they discontinued the xl.
The O.S. updates are the key and so far they are impressing me each time they release a new one. :)

i had to choose to either wait another 3-4mo.s and save up for the 4k or go w/ the 2k5? so i figured i'd save money for more gear to use w/ the 2k5. the feedback is nice ppl, keep it comin'.

I kind of fell into it the MPC2500 as well. I originally wanted a Roland MV8000, but was talked into my MPC by an MPC4000 user at Guitar Center. Plus it was about $500 cheaper because no one had one in Vegas yet...no demand.

I have other gear as well and was using the Roland SP606 more because of it's ease of use, but when I let my friend borrow the 606 and all I had left was the MPC, I had to really sit down and start learning it more.

In fact, I ALMOST sold it. I even tried to trade it for another SP606. That would have been a big mistake. Now that I am starting to get up to speed, the MPC is starting to replace my preferred beatmaking combo.

And with the new update, I am starting to make some beats faster on the MPC...

I wouldn't trade it for the world now (although I almost did...)

Enjoy your new toy...I am!

As some of you might know, I just got my 4000 stolen.. ...somehow they missed my 1k :D ! I was thinking about getting the 2500 as a companion for my 1k, but when I had the 4k, it just seemed like overkill. So, what do you guys think? Should I do it? Or do I even need a 2500 with the new OS for the 1k? :?

there's 2 things in life i can't stand, liars & thiefs :x sorry to here about that :( that's a big loss. on a lighter note, i used the 1000 w/ the new os for awhile and i really enjoy it to a certain degree. it's mobility was a nice factor, it was a tank, but i wanted the next step up. do you what you feel is right, it'll come to you. now back to the topic @ hand :D

It seems to me that if you already have the 1000, the 2 grand youd drop on the 2500 might be better served elsewhere...

I mean.. Im all for the 2500...but all youd really be doing is upgrading a piece of equipment that it sufficient as is, when you could be adding on with other pieces..
