roland vs880 w/mpc 2000 help needed

i can't for my life get this damn 8 track to work right! it's getting a reading when i play some vocals off a cd, but i can't get the roland to play what i just recorded. and the manual for the vs880 is horrible!

can anyone help me out with this, and any other beginner tips to recording? thanks a LOT!

i'm really not sure. i JUST got this machine so i'm absolutely ignorant to even the most basic things. right now i'm just trying to figure out how to play, edit, sequence, mix, and save something i've recorded

lets say u have recorded stuff to track 1.....you have armed the track.....the button is red after you finish push the button on the same track and make it green......press return to zero or rewind and then press play this should allow you to hear what you have played.........How is your set up connected???? Editing was not easy for me......I picked up the Logic vs software.........I used it to see the contents of the vs on the computer screen and did all of the editing from there.......its pretty easy to use

Try this and let me know if it works and then we can move on.......mastering 1 track on the Vs880 will allow you to master all tracks on the Vs880

thanks for the reply, phatz. my setup is basically this: i have my mpc connected to a dj mixer, and the roland also connected to a dj mixer. i'll try your advice and see if i can get that to work out

Run it like this it will be much easier for you.........

mpc into the Roland Vs880
Dj Mixer into the mpc so you can sample but also a line into the Vs880 so you can hear it

This way your 880 will be your master mixer board

what wires would it take to hook it up correctly? right now, i have quarter inch cables hooked up to the first and second track of the roland, and out to my dj mixer, and rca's hooked up to the "master out" on the roland, and into my dj mixer....lthanks in advance

you got the cables that you need insteas of sending out to the dj mixer send out from the dj mixer to the rca ins on the vs880

hey, whats up with that logic/vs880 software? is it easy to use? i hate editing on the vs800 too. so much that i was going to sell it after i get done with the project im working on.

i'll probably still have to transfer my data to my pc thru scsi wont i? this computer is trash! i cant find a scsi card for it.

No........never hook the Vs880 to the computer via scsi u will kill them both........midi hook up will allow u to see the contents of the vs880 on your computer screen........IT WILL NOT BE IN THE COMPUTER UNLESS YOU TRANSFER IT.........but there is no need to do that becauce of all the options you have inside of the Vs880.........all editing can be conducted on the screen with accuracy the program is easy to use........ lol i didnt say so in my post but i know not to hook the vs & a comp together. i have an old external scsi drive.

have you ever used a program called vstransfer?

nawh.......never transfered it to computer.......after i made all edits and added what ever i did to it then i burned it out to a cd-r i only finalized when I finished all songs in the project

As far as computer what are you working with........I might have a solution for you let me know
