note repeating

hello,
I seem to have a problem with notes repeating (retriggering) whenever I'm playing the pads.

I used to have this problem with the Roland TD7 (electronic drumset) way back.. whenever you hit a pad, it would retrigger after a few milliseconds, kinda like short delay effect..

anyone knows what this might be??
are my MPC pads f****ed up?

I usually trim my fingernails or make a mental note to hit the pad with the soft of the finger tip rather than the nail when this starts happening. It always help to go the soft path for me.
If your hit is clean and soft, I cant help you.

dont bounce your fingers and give it a steady push instead.

are you saying that this actually happens on all M1Ks and that there's nothing wrong with mine??

nah, it's not a problem with mpcs, unless we're not understanding you at all.

i had issues with this when i was first learning how to play pads, but now i know...and it doesn't happen any more

It does if you don´t hit the pads in a fashion that only generates a single hit/landing on the pad.

People with broken and faulty pads have experienced double triggering, so it might also be a machanical problem with the pads. If it is you shouldn´t experience it on all pads and your MPC shouldn´t be rather new, it takes time to wear the pads down.

So check your technique before you start worry if your pads are messed up.

If you have full level on turn it off or run down the sensitivity of your pads...or just try to get used to the way they react.

update: the more I play the pads, the less the repeats are occuring..

It IS the way I hit the pads, because I use to program my beats on keyboard (the infamous one
What I do is I hit and release very quickly when I should "give it a steady push" (ty Hypes) I'm used to use to tip of the finger (not fingernails though) as opposed to the soft part (like ryssen suggested); and Jasone is right about Full Level.. it happens less when it's turned off.

- does my playing technique (ie fast trigerring) work on other more expensive MPCs? I bet they have better pad action.
- what are your pad sensitivity settings? (Pad sens. / Velocity curve)
