returning to original sound after using note variation slide

HI I'm pretty new to the akai 2000xl just got in in december 2003. I was tweaking some sounds w. the note variation slider (tuning) but then afterwards i wanted the sound to go back to the original. anyone know what i'm talking about?

Yeah, I know what you're talking about, I think you need to press the key on top of the slider to turn it back off... if you recorded with it in your sequencer the sequence already has the changes though and you can't turn it back to the original without deleting it...

If youre tweeking a sound with the Variation Slider, and you wanna go back to its original sound just press SHIFT + AFTER and the note that is being tweeked will be diplayed so just spin the DATA wheel until it says no note

wouldn't the best practice to be:

1) make your sample (your regular one... "horn.WAV" or whatever)

2) "copy" that sample to another new sound ("horn_new.WAV")

3) tweak the duplicate sound

4) you now have two sounds, the regular and the tweaked

... i mean, right?

Just reopen note variation screen and turn the jog wheel all the way right until it says off. And so you know it won't affect what you already recorded using the note variation slider. Now you can assign it to another sample if you choose.
