A lesson I learnt re sample cds

I recently bought a sample cd online from a company known as loopmasters and before i did I asked them if it could be used with my akai mpc2000xl and they said yes no problem. When I got it home I discovered that the names of the sounds were too long for the mpc and so the ends got chopped which meant that a lot of the sounds ended up with the same name and so the mpc thought they were all the same sound and would only play one sound from each folder. I had to save to my pc and then rename almost every sound by adding a letter or number before it then burn changed settings to cdr. This solved the problem and the mpc now reads the copy. It was a long and painstaking process and one I hope to never have to do again, especially considering the price one pays for these cds. You would think that said cd company would know which cds are formatted for akai, but apparently not. Anyway lesson learnt, just cause it says wav files doesnt necessarily mean mpc will like them.

they r formatted, but namin conventions have nothing to do with format. you gotta put some work into it

There is filenaming software available to speed up shit like that. Do a search for keywords like "file renaming application freeware".

Don't remember the name of the software I used but I recently used a free app I downloaded to automate the reorganization of my 50+gig mp3 collection and it helped a whole hell of a lot.

do you think you re more and a better producer for beeing a wax sampler??
please elaborate cause i kindof notice that all vynil samplers inhere think they are more than other producers. ...
if i throw a sample cd in one of my crates, im crate diggin, no?

yes you may ask. i can and i do make tunes without other people's music. but when i sample i'd rather sample a sound myself than buy a cd full of sounds that someone else has sampled.

just as i like taking photgraphs, but i don't like taking photographs of someone else's photographs if you know what i mean.

sample whatever you wish, i was just wondering why this was posted in the crate digging section. just like mpc4000xl said if this thread was posted in the proper section it would be of more use to more people.

There are some really great quality sample cds out theses days and they arent just of samples that other people have taken from somewhere, a lot of them are put together with samples of musos brought in to play the actual riffs, loops etc specially for the cd. They are great value for money, I love them and they are a great way of building up a library of different sounds. I do also use vinyl as I have a huge collection but I prefer the sample cds as i find the quality is much better for sampling also I cannot be bothered with the whole copyright issue. You should check them out, they have made my music sound a lot better.

You need to lose the attitude
and the irritating layout of your post ( you really dont need to take up a whole page to say nothing like that)

Thanks for your help, I found a good renaming programme and it has made it a lot easier. The problem was that the sample names had 22 characters and the mpc only has 20 characters. The last 5 characters of the sample were eg. 05.wav . So the mpc couldnt remove av from the end because then it wouldnt recognise the sample as a wav so it removed the 05 which was the only part which made all the samples different from each other. They then all ended up looking the same so mpc thought there was only one sample. Anyway the problem is solved now.

you actually take the photograph itself from another mans photoalbum.
taking a shot from another photo could be cool if you reworked it in the doca (dark room) ... but taking (like actually grabbing the photo with your hands) a photo from someones exposition and place it into your own collage is .. (stealing?)... you know what im saying?

no what i meant is that i can take a picture of a statue, or a castle or whatever.... and then rework it in the dark room and make it mine.

i guess the metafor isn't too good tho, because a lot of people do the collage thing with photographs. taking pics of other people's pics. the whole visual art world is quite different from the audio one.


still that doesn't take away from the fact that this thread has nothing to do with neither crates or digging.
