does anyone use Motu Digital Performer and what do u think of it ?

Never used it personally..but its as good as all the other software DAW out there....

i've used it for 6+ years but recently switched to logic pro. What do you want to know? Great for editing audio and midi, could be better with virtual synths and stuff. The plugins it ships with are usable but not super impressive. You can get the job done with it.

i need something compatible w/ the macbook pro... i use cubace for a pc but ive moved to mac and ive got to upgrade... interface and software... stienberg doesnt know when there coming w/ an update and protools at the end of the month????maybe... i would also think about logic..

Logic/Apogee combo?

The reason why I went with Logic Pro 7 is because I ran out and bought the MacBookPro and DP wasn't/isn't compatible in Universal Binary format. The fact that i can run nodes for DSP with my dual 2.5 G5 sealed the deal. Now that I got into Logic I can't imagine looking back (except for the 500 beats I have in DP).

How are you integrating your MPC with Logic? Are you actually midi sequencing your MPC with Logic, or are you combining soft synths, etc with drums sequenced on your MPC?

I'm picking up an Intel Mac this summer and I'm thinking about getting Logic as well. I've read lots of mixed reviews about using MPC's with software midi sequencers... I'd like to hear your 2 cents about this combo.

well ,mostly i've just been hooking up tracks in logic or tracking beats from the mpc and then adding to them in logic. I'm going to sync the 2500 with MTC and see how that works out. I'm still working out my workflow to tell you the truth. It's pretty cool loading banks of sounds in the EXS24 and triggering them with the mpc ...

I use Logic and DP and an MPC 2500.

I use mainly hardware for sound sources and I sequence them all on the MPC. Then one of a few things can happen depending on my mood. Sometimes I will dump my MPC sequence as a MIDI file, import it into Logic or DP, arrange, edit, sequence some more, and then track. At this point the MPC (unless it is a sound source) is out of equation for a while. Other times I will sequence everything on the MPC and then just use Logic to kick off the MPC sequence and track things that way. Then edit and arrange the audio.

As far as using DP I think it's a great little DAW and it integrates well with other MOTU hardware however I can't imagine not using Logic because it's too solid and flexible. The learning curve is steep with Logic but it does pay off. But if all you want to do is record and edit Audio and do some MIDI sequencing on the computer DP is probably a decent bet. Although, the new version of DP will be more expensive and require an iLok. If you can afford the few extra hundred to get Logic I'd highly recommend it.

For a while Apple was running a special where if you bought a new Mac you could get Logic Pro 7.2 for $500 which is a total steal...

I have DP5 and it's serial, not iLok.

thanks for the help everyone..... zs941, u can get logics for 500 w/ a school id... what audio interface do u recommend?

The catch with educational editions of logic is they aren't eligible for the upgrade discounts like the full priced versions.
