sampling voicemail off a cel phone

No need for sarcasm, we're just tryin to help you out man. If you have a software program like Sound Forge and a phone dialer (a computer program that allows you to dial out of your computer to make phone calls just like Phatz referred to earlier) call your voicemail from the computer and record the conversation into Sound Forge edit what you need and save it as a .wav. Can't get any better quality than that!

I tried this, Radio shack sells a 1/8th to 1/32 adaptor. best to get one of these and a 1/8" Y cable to split input and output.

It didn't work for me because I got nasty hum on playback.

It could have been the adaptor shorting the mic input, but I got the same hum just holding the phone up to a mic.

why do we bother using wires at all? why not just have our MPCs play out of our speakers all the time, and record our beats with microphones in front of the speakers? who needs mixers anyway? why not just do it one layer at a time, overdubbing over each layer until we have our final song?

(hint: i'm being sarcastic here...)

the answer of course being that once sounds "leave" our wiring systems, the quality goes to ****. i don't know if you guys bought MPCs just becasue "i like teh purty drummy sounds they make", but i'm actually trying to produce quality recordings here.... i realize my "cel phone sample" isn't going to sound like it was recorded in a sound proof booth, but at least i'm hoping it won't get any WORSE than it already sounds...

I realize also that it is after all a cell phone so of course it's not going to sound stellar. I was just giving up my experiences with it.
