sequencer not recording what I'm playing

I am new to this, that being said, here's my question. I'm using a classic 2000 with about 5 tracks in a sequence.

I set up one sample to playback with note off, and 16 levels of tuning, or whatever, so i can play out melodies of my sample, then I record.

When I play the sequence back, it doesn't playback like I originally played it when recording. It seems to be missing note data or maybe pads are cancelling each other out, I don't know.

It just seems weird, I tried it a couple times and it was the same on different tracks. I was holding down one pad (so the sample would play through in note off mode) and hitting a couple other pads at the same time, i don't know if this matters at all.

u might have to turn on mono or poly

Also, you have your timing set? It will move sequencer notes over so they can be ON beat and sometimes you can't hear them cause they over lap... if not maybe you have your program parameters set to note off? usually mono works good for me when I use 16 levels...

by timing you mean the quantize note time?

I've noticed when I paly the pads and record, I'm not that accurate yet, the notes are moved around to be on beat. I assume this is some kind of quantization on the incoming pad note/sample. If this is the case how do i correct it, turn down the quantize amount?

I set the parameters to note off so the sample would stop playback when I remove my finger from the pad. If I set it to mono will that give me the same effect?

what it will do is when you tap the next pad it will cancel the one playing

I see, thats funny cause that's not the way I hear it. So I guess it only does this while recording or does this change when you change between mono/poly/note off?

Use 1/16 or 1/16 (3). That is the timing that I see many people use.

I usually start with 1/16 (3)..

Thanks for all the help guys. I'll mess with those timing and note settings till I get it, can't wait to get home. I can always record that part straight into protools after I get the drums and rhythm tracked out, if I can’t figure it out. Anyway thanks again
