Won't give SCSI as an option

What's up fellas. Kind of a weird dilemna here. I ran out of Zip Disks and wanted to save the beat before the power went out. So, not knowing that I couldn't hook up the MPC (2000xl) to a computer through SCSI, I tried to. Now when I attempt to save onto a ZIP through my SCSI drive, it won't give me the option to load or save to any SCSI devices. All I can choose from is either Floppy or Flash ROM. Any suggestions? The beat wasnt that amazing, but I'd like to try whatever before shutting this puppy off. Thanks guys.

u may have to save it to floppy and then reload so the mp can reset its self.........I never knew of anyone hooking the mp str8 to computer

Well, that also leads to another issue. For some reason, if one of my samples are larger than about 1MB, I can't save the program onto floppy. I used to go through 20 floppy disks to save this one sample until I realized that it just wouldn't save it. Not sure why at all.

Also, as for connecting directly from MPC SCSI to SCSI on a computer, it simply just doesn't work. AKAI confirms.

So I guess, unless one of you guys has an idea why it won't save on floppy for large samples, I have to suck it up and restart the guy (if that even works)

A floppy can only hold 1.44MB worth of data. What you could do in the future is chop the sample into 2 or more parts and then paste them back together using the insert sound feature under your sample trim screen. And to chop them perfectly in the first place use the section new sound option also located in the sample trim screen.

you freaked out the SCSI bus...

hate to say it, but the only way to get it back up and running is a reboot...

if it were a full blown 'puter you could probably do it wih out a reset, but the MPC's implementation of the SCSI bus doesn't allow for much fiddling...

sorry, bro... the best thing you can do is take notes from what you have... (tempo, sequence layouts, etc), then try to recreate it again upon reboot.

Write down and remember all the names of the samples you used so you can recreate it again.. Mixer settings and all that if you want to recreate it perfectly, crashes and freezes used to happen to me alot when I first got my ASR and I just wrote down EVERYTHING I could before I turned off the power..

You always have the option of saving on multiple floppies if each sample is smaller than 1mb... I used to do this before I got my zip... you can insert a floppy and save, when it runs out of space it will stop and ask you to insert a new formatted floppy and press DO IT to continue, try this...

Well yeah, I mean anything under I guess the size of floppy saves fine like that. So I just dumped the samples into ProTools and rebooted the guy. SCSI recognizes fine now. Cutting it up and pasting em back together just sounding like a huge pain in the tuckus although a good idea. But I wish I could've kept it on the MPC, there just ain't nothing like punchin keys. Mouse prod. is for nerds.

WHICH MAKES ME CURIOUS.... ANYONE EVER TRIED TO USE AN MPC WIT REASON?

I don't think hittin a pad will be arychacic. What about keys? Software is nice but you need a physical way off entering data keys have been around fo thousands of years from the first harpsichord to your triton. All drum machine come with pads. Or some way to express it physically.
