slicing & assigning on all 16 pads?

i've read the whole chopshop, slicing, and patch phrasing sections, but in order to assign a sample sliced into 16 regions on all 16 pads in order you have to create a new program? creating a new program wipes out all my other instruments assigned to the pads and only leaves the one sample from 1-16. i tried to apply this method to a different pad bank, it does not work? the only way i found possible is to assign each of the 16 regions individually in the program mode?

my question is, how i am able to take a sample, slice it into 16 regions and apply it to all all 16 pads in a different pad bank w/out having to create a new program for it? like i said, i'm able to take each region of the sample (1-16) and manually assign each one in order in program (from pad 1-16) but this is a time consuming process. i want be able to do this w/out creating a new program so it doesn't alter my original program that i am already using i.e. (my drums on program 1) i want to be able to have my drums playing while @ the same time recording my sample in real time? i hope this makes sense to someone because i have tried everything. if this is confusing, go to youtube.com and search beat making videos, jacpot. this dude is doing exactly what i'm trying to do w/ a sample while the drums are playing in real time. Just change the program that's assigned to the current track in the main screen back to the original one and you're set. The MPC automatically changes the program of the active track in the active sequence to the sliced samples pgm.

It doesn't overwrite any programs, that's why it's called create new program

I think what he's sayin is he'd like to assign all 16 pads to a different bank of a current program, instead of creating a whole new program.

This would be a nice feature actually.

No, I think he wants to keep his drums, which he programmed already, and play along with the newly sliced sample. If you say "Create new program" after chopping, the MPC overwrites the current track with the new program. So it seems that his original program is lost, but he just has to change it back again. Another example of a stupid default setting...

What you can't do, as you said already, is use the Pads on the other banks to be filled up with the slices automatically.

you guys got it. say i have my drums programmed already, i find an 8bar sample from a record, slice it equally into 16 regions and then and then convert it to sliced samples while crating a new program. now, from what i understand, if i assign the sliced sample into a new pad bank it would not affect my programmed drums already recorded, but when i convert the the 16 regions into a sliced sample w/ new program it seems to clear out the drums that were assigned previously,, then replacing my drums w/ the sliced regions. i'm trying to make sense of this to everyone, i'm glad ppl are helping, thanks. i just don't want the new program of sliced samples to play in place of the drums previously recorded. i want to lay out my drums w/ one in a separate track, then record, chop, slice, and apply my samples while the drums are playing in real time. now, when i try this the new proram seems to replace my existing one containing the drums, that should make more sense. thanks ppl for helping out, i could'nt find this explination in the manual.

so listen to what stilo said way up there , and change the pgm on the main screen back to your drum pgm then switch to a new track and select your sliced sample pgm.

Or even change to a new track BEFORE you create the new program.

That way it will assign the new program to the new track so you want have to swap it about
