anyone know some good MPC60 techs?

i kind of got that impression when i emailed them a couple times for further info on some gear and they never responded. poor customer service is usaully a good sign of a reputable repair shop. they sell stuff on ebay alot under that name.

when i got my 60 off ebay i took it apart.

Take it apart man.


Buy a Multimeter and a soldering iron.
Get a clean benchtop and a well lit area.
Get the service manual. (Yahoo 60 group)

They aren't too complicated.

Okay. This is exactly off of the invoice...

1.5 hrs - Labor @ $65 per hour = $97.50
1 - EBack Light S-1000 @ $59.85 = $59.85
1 - Vr Rotary Ewke2ap20a14 A103x2 @ $11.48 = $11.48
1 - Sw Tact Skhham004a @ $7.70 = $7.70
1 - Misc solvents, cleaners, solder, wick, etc. @ $3.50 = $3.50

Replaced defective lcd display backlight assy, volume pot and "up" switch. Reflowed solder connection on power supply pcb due to high failure rated connections. thermal test general check - passed qc test.

Subtotal = $180.03
Tax = $6.81
Total = $186.84

i called VST they called back nicely leavin a message. im gunna probably just go with them. they're nice. reply quickly. and further...

one thing, i'm sure rohan knows this as a tech... if you're not particuarly good at electronics, more often than not opening a unit will make it worse.

i repair most of my own units. but when they get to a certain point. it's tech time. I did this "repair" myself, and i don't want to further damage it. VST quoted me at about $165 which definately sounds reasonable. cuz either i could sell this one as is for like 450-500, part it out prolly for 550-600, or just fix it and sell it for about 800.

the unit looks previously repaired inside, there are certain ribbon cables that have electrical tape on them. we'll see waht happpens:-)

this way i can also go back to an mpc60 after i get back and don't need the mpc1000's portability too;-)

Any one know if there's anyone who could sort out an MPC 60 in London and or Cambridge?

I have an MPC 60 arriving from Australia (a gift as far as customs are concerned!)...it's in good condition now, but I'm thinking of the worst...

Want to get it all nice and hooked up to my s950 for that classic setup...

Dude is spacey... he threw my Route 66 replacement floppy away, he didnt know that it would not accept 1.44 floppies... he got me one of those really expensive replacement ones... he knocked some money off the bill... He'll get it fixed, lets just say that... now I need him to solder my backlight onto the wires that connect to that board...

Shouts to the Dude who gave me his card at the second Record Revival in Philly...
