Something weird is happening when I try to record to laptop.

Ok guys..So On the mpc, when I plug in my headphones the samples play on both sides (left and right). Today I bought the monster cable that goes from record out(mpc) to phono line on my pioneer djm707 mixer (because thats the only location I get sound from my monitor speakers). The problem is... One of the main samples play only on the left side of the two monitor speakers....How do I fix this? I tried copying and pasting and making 2 on garageband, one playing only on the left and the other playing only on the right, but that doesnt solve the problem!!! When I recorded the song, the sample was playing only on one side. Can anyone help me? thanks

As for the laptop..I connect rcas to master out (mixer) to line in (laptop).

The problem is that a "minijack" style input is a TRS (tip-ring-sleeve) connector; basically a small version of a 1/4 inch stereo jack connector.
Sounds like you are coming out of your MPC in the wrong manner.
First off, what mpc are you using, becuase you mention 'RECORD OUT' of your MPC. There are no 'record outs' labled on any model that I know of. Perhaps you are accidentally comming out of your 'RECORD IN', the sample input or something. Another idea is: you may be comming out of just one of the TWO channels needed for stereo output, which even with a stereo cable, is only going to bring one side of that information to the laptop's input. Make sure that you have a cable that goes DUAL (2) 1/4 inch mono jacks to ONE STEREO minijack. The two (for L & R)
mono 1/4 inch jacks go OUT of your MPC from the STEREO OUTS, and the other side goes into the minijack on your laptop.

I don´t want to cause any further confusion here, but you can´t have two balanced 1/4´s running to one mini-TRS in the other end. You just can´t.

So FreshKorean, don´t go chasing 2 x balanced 1/4 to mini-TRS, cause you won´t find it.
Any 2 x (or DUAL) 1/4 to mini-TRS will be unbalanced.

Also, you're gonna wanna go into the LINE input on your mixer, not PHONO.

Yes, he is right and that is part of the problem:
you cannot go into a Phono input, you must go into a line input
on the mixer.
And this DJ mixer seems to have RCA stereo inputs, correct?
So actually you need a pair of 1/4 inch to RCA cables, male
on both ends , to come out the MPC to a line in on mixer.
That would give you playback, but for recording I would just go direct to the laptop and bypass the mixer, and plug the output of laptop to the mixer to monitor it. So again, you can accomplish that with
two mono 1/4 inch to single stereo minijack into the laptop.
