I just was working fine about 1 hour ago

I turned evrything off nothing new about that. I turn My machine back on System Test

more and more I'm starting to believe akai let some bad batches slip throught the cracks.

a little question for everyone who recenty got this error message what were you doing that was different from any other day???

hmm, to my mind, i was just playing a song, then stopped it, turned off the mpc and restart it to load a new song ! and at this moment the problem was here!
I tried to apply the easy way to reinstall the os holding on the window button at the start but the problem persist!

I think da new os is not perfect ! when my mpc will be back, i would reinstall the 1.1 os !

appreciate the feedback Dog,

but that was a rhetorical question. The point I was trying to make was I'm doing the same thing I do EVERYDAY and all of a sudden out the blue I get a system test message.

BTW not that anyone cares but if you can't install the OS from the card like I couldn't you have to send it back.

nah that wasn't why I bought it.

Originally I just wanted to purchase a MPC I was going to get the 2000XL but..

I looked down and saw the Black box... the rest is history. Believe it or not this is actually a good thing becuz I'm possibly going to be able to get the MPC I want

The service tech told me it is a software bug. I don't think it has anything to do with memory or cf card. Are we all using the newest o.s?

I'm curious as to your upgrade path for the O.S.

did you go from 1.0 b (i think ain't to sure what it was)
to 1.10
to 1.2

then back to 1.10

and finally back to 1.2

that's what I did I wonder if that has something to do wit it?

Prior to experiencing the SYSTEM TEST problem, the monitor that was hooked into the right stereo out on the back of my mpc would periodically make a crackling noise. At first I thought that there might be a problem with the speakers, but I hooked them up dirrectly into my synth (instead of through the mpc) and the sound was fine. I also hooked my headphones into the right stereo out of the mpc and the crackling noise was audible through them too. This noise coming from my speakers persisisted even after I tried turning my mpc off and then back on. Right before the SYSTEM TEST screen appeared, I was in the record mode recording some notes from my synth while playing back a sequence to get the right tempo. After I was done recording I pressed stop and my speakers started crackling again, and then the SYSTEM TEST screen appeared and has been there since. I talked to the tech support supervisor at akai and they are sending me a flash card with v1.1 on it so that I can fix the problem. So far this is the only solution that they are aware of, and they are undergoing further investigation. I also talked to VST and they said that there might be a possible problem with the new OS. I hope that the solution is as simple as reinstalling v1.1 because my unit was imported from Japan and the warranty card that came with it is in japanese. Unfortunately, I didnt know it at the time of purchase, but the warranty is not effective here in the US, so if Akai distributed a bad batch of mpcs, it would appear that I am screwed!

The SYSTEM TEST error is a software bug. They are beta testing a new o.s now, it should be out in a few weeks.

when you have a new piece of equipment how else are you going to learn it's limitations?

the only thing I did was go from 1.2 back to 1.1

and then back to 1.2

(when 1.2 came out I had to verify a problem with the O.S.)

I'm sure i'm not the only one who has done this. Maybe the only one who will admit they did it but not the only one :).
