just starting out and wanted to know when using a compressor with the mpc2000xl do both items have to go through a mixer for the compressor to work

You could run the MPC directly into the compressor, and from there to the mixer, but if you have channel inserts on your mixer, that is the most widely accepted configuration....

cheers for that dude i thought just as much i have the mpc2000xl and a compressor now i just have to purchase a mixer, the missing part of the equation

do you really need a compressor though? I thought all I had left was a mixer.

its nice to have...
jredd, i would think you should send the compressor to your effect send on your mixer. that way you can use the effect on the channels you want instead of the beat as a whole...right?
i may be wrong. im not too familiar with effect sends/returns yet...if im wrong, someone hip me so i know.
