Assigning MIDI channels to samples on MPC2000xl

I'm running Cubase VST with a Roland XP-10 Keyboard/controller. I've got midi running from the computer to the in & out of the Roland with midi running from the Thru on the XP to the In on the MPC. All of my samples from the MPC load up and play fine. Though they are coming up on every midi channel and over top of my keyboard sounds, like an omni setting or something. Is there a way, with how I am hooked up, to assign a specific midi channel to each sample I load up so they don't spread over every channel? Any help on this would be much appreciated.

It sounds like you have your MPC set up whereas both the midi channel and the drum program are both on at the same time. On your main screen it should read at the bottom. Drum 1 or whichever drum you're using. This is the MPC pgms on only set up.

If you want to play just your midi channels and no sounds from your MPC it should say midi where it usually says drum and to the right of that you should be able to see what midi channel is on.

Basically I want to treat the MPC as a stand alone sampler where I can trigger each sample with my XP-10. So I'd like to have, say a kik on one pad, a snare on another pad and assign each of them a midi channel and key on the roland.

T do that you first have to turn the local settings on your keyboard to off. This would be a problem if you use your keyboard's internal sounds to compose your tracks with. I take that back here's what you can do, one one of your midi channels turn the setting to off and to play your drum sounds with the keyboard and not hear the keyboard sounds. So if you turned midi channel 1 on your keyboard to not recieve/off you would then turn the mpc drum of your choice on and turn the midi channel on the MPC to 1A . this would allow you to play your MPC sounds using your Keyboard as a controller without having to hear the XP-10 sounds as well. To use another pgm just swith the drum pgm on the MPC, just remember to select the midi channel that you have set to off. I hope this works for you.

I actually had done what you've suggested already. Local on the XP is off and I got one midi channel that has nothing but MPC sounds. Which is perfect and what I want. But the problem I have is perhaps my lack of experience on the MPC. The MPC sounds, though solo on the channel I want, are still pouring out all over every other midi channel. So on the MPC, let's say i load just one sample, a kik drum for example. In the main screen do I simply go to the bottom left and rotate that to midi-1A and that's it ? If I can just keep the MPC sounds on one midi channel I'm done

Look at it like this.
Drum= MPC sounds on
Midi = Midi channel on & MPC sounds off
Drum & 1A(etc;) the MPC sounds and your midi sounds are both on

In short Check your tracks to make sure that only one of the two is on to avoid hearing both.
