jamespds wrote:hey man, i read some threads on other sites and i figured out that i actually DO need a usb-interface, like an m-audio uno (that's what i asked you for a couple of messages back remember).
thanx for your help but you better learn some more about the magic world of the mpc cause you don't know **** about it you sucker (haha)

are you a professional d!ckhead, or just a gifted amateur? try explaining better next time, and answering the questions i asked you so that i could ascertain the actual problem, which in this case seemed to be that the edirol couldn't send midi to both the usb port and it's midi out port at the same time (but then i guess you read that in the manual). the only reason for me to keep asking questions about the edirol was so that you could save money, but clearly that doesn't seem to matter to you. an intelligent person would have seen that i was trying to do this. the other day i thought i saw your name on a packet of sliced bread, but then i realised that it said 'Thick Cut'. have a nice day doobie-brain.

mr modnar my friend, don't be mad, i was only a bit frustrated it doidn't work. now i've got an usb interface, and i still have problems:
Like the video showed I also want 2 just just use Reason strictly as a module. The issue is the note events i trigger in the edirol keyboard controller do not register to the mp. However, those same sounds can be triggered from the mpc pads which sequences fine but the notes are scattered on the pads. What exactly should my midi cable setup be?
no hard feelings?

right, as i said before, connect the keyboard's midi out to the mpc midi in, and check that it plays programs on the mpc. then connect the midi out on the mpc to the midi in on the midi usb interface. then you should be sorted. the keyboard will only powered by the usb, don't use it as your controller for reason, instead use the midi usb interface. that way the note signals will go through the mpc and into the pc. the reason things weren't working before, was because the midi signals were going straight from the edirol to reason, so the mpc couldn't record them. you must have it going keyboard--->MPC--->PC. got it? :D

sorry to bother you again, i did what you said, and still it doesn't work, my problem is exactly what grimes explains in this thread:

"I watched the video( thx afex!!) i actually have a oxygen 8 mpc1000 and a laptop w no sound card( just got sum cheap speakers plugged into the headphone jack.) I got like the cheapest m audio usb midi joint & it only has one midi out and one midi in. I tried the setup in the vid and when i set it up i can trigger the sounds from reason on the mp pads and off the oxygen but when i sequence it only records what i trigger from the mp and not the oxygen. Whatever i play on the oxygen doesnt rec to the sequencer. Is there any additional things i need besides the sound card and How do i correct the problem of the oxygen info not recording to the seq? Damn thats alot 2 read. sorry any help is highly appreciated"

i have almost the same set-up; i have a laptop with reason, an mpc 1000, an edirol keyboard and an usb interface withe one midi in and one midi out, but apart from that, i've got the very same problem problem, ....it fokkin makes me tired...help...

did you change the track type to midi in the mpc?
By jamespds Sat May 27, 2006 7:34 pm

so, can you play a program on the mpc from the keyboard? forget the pc for a moment, just connect the keyboard to the mpc via midi. obviously if you don't have a mains adaptor for the keboard, you'll have to connect it to the pc via usb for power. then try and play any existing program in the mpc with the keyboard.

As long as electric supply for my keyboard is concerned, i've tried it with an external adapter, and i have tried it with usb to my pc. And yes i can trigger the sounds of an mpc program with my keyboard. I can also trigger sounds of reason, but i can't get these reason sounds on a mpc track, just like my mpc doesn't allow reason sounds to come in....

when you say " just like my mpc doesn't allow reason sounds to come in...." what do you mean?

all sparq was doing in his vid was triggering reason using the keyboard and the mpc was recording what notes he pressed, then the mpc triggered reason, no reason sound came from the mpc, reason only played through the audio outs of his pc.

By jamespds Sat May 27, 2006 8:31 pm
i mean that the mpc doesn't record the notes i press, i got earphones in my mpc, and no reason sounds to hear when i play my keyboard, they go straight to reason and that's where i hear them, not through my mpc...iwanna do just what sparq does

all this hassle just for you to tell me that? jesus h. christ.

you won't hear reason in the headphones of the mpc unless you take the audio output from your pc and plug it into the mpc's record ins and use input thru. the reason you can hear both on sparq's video is because he has the audio outputs of both plugged into a mixer.

go back to my second post in this thread and you will see that this is what i said right back at the beginning!

By jamespds Sat May 27, 2006 9:01 pm
damn, that's hard to hear, so i didn't need to buy an usb interface at all? and without a mixer, it won't work or what, and what do you mean by 'input thr, is soft thru the same thing?

By jamespds Sat May 27, 2006 9:03 pm
what is the cheapest mixer you can think of (in euros?)

page 81 pdf manual. that's for the input thru function, or else you could use the line in on your laptop, then using windows mixer, you could hear both at the same time. dunno about cheapest mixer, you'd have to check your local music store.
