Hey all how's it going :O

I recently purchased the MPC2500, and i love it. I have to say though, i'm a brand new "producer" if i can even refer to myself as one yet, and my focus within music has been mainly lyrics and rap itself. I was sick of rapping over other people's beats and making subpar music....it was stuff i didn't really feel and connect with, so i invested in a little bit of gear to start learning production. Besides, producers can be 60 years old and still have a job...i'd love to see a 60 year old emcee ;)

Anyways....i've noticed a few things about this unit that i can't seem to figure out. For example, the other day i was making a beat and i wanted to use this sample of a guy going "Ugghhh!"( for lack of a better description, haha) and it simply would not play it. It was a short sample, about 2 beats long, and it wouldn't record over what i had already played. It wouldn't play the sound when i hit the pad at all. In fact, it did record once, but then when i stopped recording and hit playback, it didn't play it back to me....

Sorry if i rambled a bit there i just dont know how to explain it too well. I'm also using a Yamaha Motif 6 keyboard which i bought off of someone a couple years ago and never really used too much....but the thing is it only seems to be working as a controller. I would love to use the voices on that thing, because there's so many, but i can't figure it out :( I'd look at my manual but i got clumsy and lost it during the renovations of my apartment, so i'm out of luck there.

Also, i know i'm new to this production thing, and i have a LOT to learn, but i'd like to maybe get your feedback on the 3rd beat i've ever made in my life and the first one i did on the MPC when i bought it:

www.soundclick.com/bands/insaneproductionhouse

Its the only beat on the page at the moment, and its only a short sample of it. Any feedback would be great :)

Thanks again guys, sorry for the long winded post!

dont know exactly what this could be.
go to program page , press f3 (params) and check if in the upper right corner
play is set to: poly. if set to mono every sample of the program will cut any
other sample of the same program.
if you hit the pad while loop is stopped and no sounds is coming,go to program page and hit the pad to see if the sample is loaded. if not loaded
it will look like this:"?"+"samplename". this may happen if you didnt save
your project correctly.

Motif:
connect motif audio out to your mixer.
connect motif midi out to mpc midi in.
connect mpc midi out to motif midi in.
on main page select an unused track.
Type:midi Pgm:off Midi:1a (or 1b or 1c or 1d , depends on which midiout of mpc is connected to motif midi in.)
configure motif to receive and send midi on channel 1.
on mpc midi page make shure active track receive channel is set to "all"
and soft through is set to "as track".
have fun!
