Brant...are you using the included CF card or another???

i have Logic Audio Plat 6 and i had no issues of transfering .wavs from my Mac to the mpc 1000.

even my bounced down samples from logic (as .wavs) work.

ref:

>mpc 1000 - OS 1.02
>Logic 6
>OSX 10.2.6
>using .wavs via USB transfer and using my 'Card reader'.
>Using standard 32mb Card included with the MPC 1000.

How are you transfering? and what card are u using?

right...

in Logic Audio (i assume you have),

1) Import 1 of your audio samples.
2) go to open 'Window'.
3) Double Click the Audio sample file
4) It should open a Waveform (which is highlighted in Black).
5) go to File...and 'Save Selection As'

6) then Select PC WAVE > 16bit > and Name your sample > Save it.

Now you have a new version of a proper .Wav in a pc format.
Remember to check that your new version of the sample has .wav at the end, otherwise it won't work.

This should do it.

also if you ever get a sample playback 'click' after pressing any of the MPC 1000 pads...then you also need to ...

7) Remove DC OFF SET in logic audio (in the sample editor), and resave the sample as mentioned from step 1-6.

basically the MPC 1000 has issues with certain Peak levels in the wavefrom of certain samples. removing the DC Offset shall fix any clicks you may encounter in the MPC.

it seems like alot of work...but ime sure this will fix your problem.

brant wrote:yes, yes I know this. All the audio files that I tried were only 4 letters. I even experimented with numbers/caps/non-caps. And yet, still only a quarter of the pads transfered to the mpc 1000. (and mpc 2000xl for that matter.) Have you actually used it with success? Do you really incorporate it in your method of making music? What program do you use to edit and convert the audio? On a mac or pc? what os? etc...
I'm using OS X (10.2.8) on a G4 PowerBook, and MpcPgmMaker (this version) works fine. I have been using Soundstudio to chop up samples, but (as discussed earlier in the thread) it doesn't save WAVs in a standard that the 1000 can read. When I create a PGM using AIFF files in MpcPgmMaker, it copies the files into a WAV format that the 1000 can use. If it drops any of the files, I haven't noticed yet. Maybe it wasn't properly unlocked from demo mode when you registered it? I'm sure the guy who wrote it would be able to provide some feedback.

brant wrote:oh yeah...let me re-itterate...when I spoke to akai, they didn't even have a mac hooked up in the tech support office!!! Can you belive that?!?!??!!
So maybe the audio file from a pc work great (as well as MPCprgmMaker) but not always on a mac? Anyone? anyone??!!!

Brant,
what # did you use? I have 817-834-1900 for akai support. I get them every time.
You know when I spoke to them they had no Idea so many people were having issue with this card reader/writer. I'm like.. "Yo, I know of at least 2 or 3 other cats that have called if not more with the same issue."
to say the least
I think that they are at times unhelpful.
but hey at least they help when they can.
as far as the card goes, I went to best buy with the phone in my hand and Aakai on the phone, asked, "what card did you buy?" they told me the Fuji card from best buy.
Chris, I will try the files tonight at the studio, hope it helps.
personally I hope it is a card issue and I also hope that the card wont cost as much as that link to Amazon. that would suck.

Hey brant sorry I haven't hit you back on the pm yet, but I wanted to let you know I do plan on calling akai and letting them know this is straight bullsh**. One of the reasons i got the 1000 is because I was led to believe that the usb connectivity would save me time and make it easier for me to produce my music. I can't believe they don't have a mac setup. How can you claim to be a leader in the industry and be so bass ackwards, it just doesn't make sense. I've got a pc as well, so im going to transfer my wav's from the mac over to the pc and try and load them from there, so I'll let you know what happens. To everyone else who is having this problem definitely call akai and let them know, the more peeps we get to call and complain the more serious they'll take it. Thanks for keeping the thread going.

I hear you guys, I just sent an email to akai with links to the several posts we have added to this forum,. hope they read it.
I am in the same boat as you, i even sold my 2000 to get the 1000 simply because the USB connection, I was sick of the zip card. but now I wish I kept it.

mpc3000...what do you use? Mac, PC, what program to edit/convert the wav files, etc...or are the files from sample cds?

Try using quicktime, it should work no problem. None of this may be akais fault at all. They specify what wav files that the mpc will accept. Even $200 or $300 dollar wave editors cannot open up some wav files.

I am on OSX 10.3 and haven't had any problems using quicktime. The problems seem to start when programs add their info to the wav format or save in a different wav compression format.

It would be almost impossible to give the mpc1000 the ability to open every kind of wav format.

By Insectpossewillbecrushed Fri Jan 30, 2004 9:53 pm
sumedho is quite right. If anyone, blame Microsoft for allowing compressed WAV formats to use the .wav extension.

Of course, it'd have been nice if Akai had provided AIFF support on the 1000 :)

Sumedho, You F!&%$^!!! Rock! I just installed Quicktime Pro 6.5 and imported all the files the mpc 1000 wouldn't read and some new ones to test it, and the mp read all of them!!! Thank god. Peak, Logic, and MpcPrgmMaker only worked on half of the files, and none of the files exported from Pro Tools worked. I guess it does have everything to do with what all those editors stamp on the file.

Sumedho, is that you working on the new Mpc Program Maker ? (not the $20 one, but the now really simple one on the link to your web page) It seems like it wouldn't be that hard, just use the same conversion as Quicktime, etc... I tried it but haven't figured out the method of bringing it to the mpc. Do you create a new folder with all the samples, and then the reference file (kind of like a midi file) ??? We need you, since akai has been horrible and obviously won't create a program themselves, and the MpcProgramMaker doesn't work very well at all. I guess that's a new thread...

Oh yeah, to let everyone know yet again...during all of those tests I used the 32 mb Compact Flash card that came with the MPC 1000. And all the files were 4 or 5 letters 16 bit mono .wav files. With the exception of the Pro Tools exports none of them were Broadcast Waves...

Roopesh...I did exactly what you said with logic-and still only half the files worked.

Insectpossewillbecrushed...yes, I purchased MpcProgramMaker for $20 and had it unlocked. Still problematic. Not to mention he never returned my emails...and yeah, the should include support for aiffs, right?

aaron_bliss...thanks for forwarding the forum to akai. We shouldn't have to do the beta testing. Bastards! And as far as Nick telling everyone on this forum that he hasn't heard anyone having these problems....don't even get me started!!! Is there anyone who works for akai on this forum?

So the next step, I guess is to use these newly converted .wavs from Quicktime Pro with the 2 different Mpc Program Makers and see if that works. It'll be just a few steps, but still easier than editing in the mp. My question for Akai is this... Why don't they develop a piece of software to work with the MPC 1000. They could even charge for it and make money. And it can't be that complicated...especially if they already did Mesa, right?

Lastly, I want to thank everyone for their input and help. We all know we can't get any from Akai...

yeah it would be good for akai to make a small useful piece of software! It would certainly help. Should be pretty easy for them to do as well. I'll have a think (and read some info) about building quicktime conversion of files into the program maker

Cheers

Hey guys, glad to see things are starting to work. As for me nothing has done the trick yet, I was thinking about getting quicktime pro like sumedho suggested, but I would feel like I was getting ripped off by akai having to pay 30 bucks just to get my files to work in the mpc. Do you think this is a problem that will be fixed where I'll finally be able to get files from PT to my mpc, or should I just get quicktime pro and go that route? By the way man everyone on this thread has been real cool, I'm glad to see users coming together like this. Thanks!
