I am confused, everytime I try to import samples into my MPC 1000 they sound distorted. I have even downloaded the program MPC1000 PC "MPC1000 PROGRAM CREATOR". I can get samples that are .wav format and place them onto a pad. When I play the actual sample it sound fine. When I hit the pad I placed it on, it sound distorted.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to change the sample settings. If so what do I change and what should it be chaged too?

Anyone please help.

is the mpc's main output too high? does it sound like clipping, or like an effect? when you preview a sample from the hd/mem card does it sound distorted then?

if no, turn off bit grunger
if yes, turn down the master volume

if neither of these is the solution, give me more info...

I am reminded of an error I had while transferring files from the MPC1000 to my mac--the mpc played the samples nice and clean, but when I brought my cf card to my mac and imported the sound off the card, they were chopped up and quite distorted. Had I not spent an hour or two on the MPC cleaning those sounds, the garbled result might have been inspiring. This was not the case, however...
After this trouble, the MPC still read the samples from the card without error (no distortion, no jumbling data, etc). I then tried to transfer the samples to my mac straight out of the MPC (connected via USB) and not by physically moving the cf card from machine to machine. Doing this I had no problem--all was well.
Maybe my card is going out, I don't know. But the workaround really doesn't bother me.
If you're trying to sample with the MPC, this suggestion obviously doesn't apply to you, and if you're not physically moving the card between machines, not much luck, either.
So, if you're transferring between your computer and the MPC using a CF card (physically moving the card between the two), try using the USB function of the MPC instead. Works for me, may work for you.
