A few thoughts:

1) Are your samples set to 'one shot' or 'note on' in the program? If it's 'note on' then the sample will play only for as long as the pad was held down while recording.

2) What are the mono/poly settings for the pads?

3) If you've got a lot of samples running simultaneously, then maybe you're out of polyphony (the 1K can do 32 simultaneous samples, and any extra after that will cut out samples already playing).

all the pads are on poly. they are all on one shot, that's not it...im familiar with that function. i really dont think ive got 32 samples going at once...its just drums, bass and 3 small samples. is it cause i dont have the ram upgrade?

I'm guessing you'd get an 'out of memory' error if that was the case - it wouldn't let you load the sample in the first place, rather than cause odd stuff during playback, I think.

Might be worth a quick check of the samples that are cutting out in 'trim' mode, just to check that you've got the start and end points of the samples in the right places. A long shot, I know...

and no mute groups were activated, I checked and re-checked. Did you set up your program on the mpc or on your computer? I used my laptop to set up the program, and thought maybe there is a compatibility issue.
I didnt get to test out this theory though, tonite I will.

By the way, the beautiful mess created by my kick and snare canceling out my sample gave new life to my beat-in-progress. The glitch was just what I needed...

I don't know why but I am noticing this to be happening to alot of people lately!

It used to happen to me but I just fixed it by making different programs for every element of my beat. I personally think this is rediculous but i would make a program for my drums, seperate program for samples and just switch between them track for track.

I believe this is a major glitch on the MPC 1000 and needs to be fixed.

this is no bug, it's just improper sample optimization. sample drums in mono if possible, make all drum samples monophonic. i haven't had a sample dropout in a year.

What if your drums are already sampled and you are just importing them into your project from a drum folder? Would you then have to resample it into mono? How would you do that?

i'd say resample the main outs in mono instead of stereo. pick your channel and go with it.

try resampling the drums in order of most frequently struck note - probably your hats or rides. make that a mono wav AS WELL as monophonic.

all my drums are mono. i make em stereo later by duplicating the sample's track in acid and playing with panning, eq, and reverb. this cleans polyphony up on the mpc wonderfully.
