If you want to pitchshift a sample on the XL, without altering its speed, you have to use the timestretch function in the trim screen, and then retune the sample in its program properties, to get it to the right speed:

here's the table i made for this:

KEY__________Percentage of Stretch________Detune
-4________________79.37%_______________-40
-3________________84.09%_______________-30
-2________________89.09%_______________-20
-1________________94.38%_______________-10

+1_______________105.94%_______________+10
+2_______________112.24%_______________+20
+3_______________118.92%_______________+30
+4_______________125.99%_______________+40

have fun, bro's....

Or you can check the 1st link in my signature and look for the DEEPSOUND website which has a timestretch calculator.

ive also noticed to work the bpm match properly, you need to count the bpm of the original track you sampled from. Then go into the bpm match screen (under timestretch) then enter in the original bpm. I know there is a reading of the "original bpm", but from my experience that is always inaccurate-because its a reading of the bpm of the current shorter phrase, rather than the actual song. then enter you new bpm and it should work!

i also have learned to loop my samples with the sequencer rather than the sampler-this way you can avoid timestretch if you really have to (because sometimes it just wont work.) Youll have to know how to play drums over you main sample though-not vice versa.

okay, make an open 1 bar sequence-Enter your main sample phrase into the first step of the bar 1.1.00. Make sure the duration is long enough to play the entire sample. Then play the bar. Adjust the bpm until the sample loops perfectly in the measure! You can even adjust the bpm to leave space at the end of the sample so that you can add another sample. Also if you double up the bpm of your loop-you can double the samples in the measure and the resolution of the sequence.

Next-just realtime sequence your drums over the sample-you can even adjust the bpm to match the loop.

peace.

thanx neadle, fellers, ...
btw: deepsound calculator! its a great page, ... but my internet connection is slow and my pc a nightmare!
so i wonder whether someone of you ever came the idea to make an excel table, offline program, any table whcih does exactly what is on deepsounds page! (calculating time stretch, pitch, echo values, ...)
if someone has such a tool, sheet, program, ... and would share it with us ...
me, personally, I'd suggest to reserve this nice and kind person a place in music history!
cheers
alto
btw: i have a very old excel sheet (no formula) which shows delay settings in 1/1000 for 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/8 (3), 1/16 (3) from bpm's 60 to ... 240 or so (those are for the faster bits)! if anyone is interested ...!
