How many 1000 owners wish they had waited and gotten a 2500?

OK, so I have enough extra cash right now to justify an MPC1000. I currently also have an ESX-1, Microkorg, Tapco Monitors and a Mackie DFX6. My next purchase was supposed to be a new Intel Mac, Motu Ultralite and Logic Express for recording, but it looks like I may need to move in the next few (3,4,5...) months and so I want to wait until I'm in my new place before I buy the new computer. I have really limited space now, and I want to do it up right...

So....my choices are don't get anything now. Wait a few months until I move and then pick up the Mac, Motu, Logic. Then, pick up an MPC2500 around Christmas Time when I'm settled.

or....get the MPC1000 now, and then get the Mac, Motu, Logic set-up after I move and forget the 2500.

My question....How many of you MPC1000 owners wish you had saved up and gotten a 2500 instead? I'm gonna try to run a poll, but I'm not sure if I can set it up.

Anyway, just looking for some input...

I don't regret not waiting because the MPC2500 didn't exist when I bought my 1k (August '04). But if I was buying now then I would definitely wait it out a bit and save up for the 2500

I chose to wait and i'm glad i did.

If you decide to do the same then any current problems with the 2500 will be sorted.

Features that tip it for me are the direct recording, extra midi outs, 8 outs, tilt screen and the overall size of the unit.

Depends how you're going to use it really.

nah, not worth the price to me. plus i always start beats in public places so portability is important.

man the 1000 is more then enough for me

the 2500 will be too much

i have never let any of these so called 'disadvantages" that come with the 1000, stop me from making music that i like

so yeah good for those who have the 2500, but im very content with my 1000

1K is cool saw both before 2500 release commerically. No biggie anyway I have the ESX like you too not much more on the 2500.

Are you still rocking the 4000?

I'm still not sure what I'm going to get. If the 1000 had MTC that would probably decide it for me. I'm still thinking that the MPC will eventually be part of a bigger set up, so being able to readily integrate into a DAW is a big factor.

Then again. I've never owned an MPC and I'm still new to the production game. 1G is a lot easier to commit to than 2. At least the 4K has that dope ass sampler to justify the cost.

Hmmm. I'm still on the fence...guess I'll wait until the answer comes to me.

I would get the 1K now so you can get a head start on some beats, that way, when you get your computer set up, you will already have a bunch of songs ready to track in, and then you can focus on mixing em down. The 2500 is nice, but I can't really justify the price difference. Get the 1k, and spend the extra money on your other gear.

Yeah I practice on the others but cuz I been working with the 4k so long and I very comfortable with it I do all my main production on the 4k.

Hmmm. I'm still on the fence...guess I'll wait until the answer comes to me.

Yeah...a definite thought right now. The extra 1G would buy the MOTU ultralite and Logic Express (which can later be updated to Pro)...

Can't you do this with the 2500 as well? I would think it would be more compact than a 1k, assuming you're using a laptop with the 1k.

Another question: Can the 2500 fit in a backpack? If so, would it be too heavy to lag around? Portability is very important to me too, so this is very key.

1st of all the 2500 is not that heavy or big. I can hold it easily with one arm and i only bench like 130...so if u want portablilty then either one is aight. The 2500 is alot wider than the 1k so ud need a big backpack.

There is a big advantage to buying a 2500 if u can afford it. 8 outs is already big plus all the other features the 2500 has. I was gunna cop a 1k but im glad the seller flaked on me cuz i ended up with the 2500. Theres nothing wrong with the 1k. Its just the small things like the difference in pads and tilt screen which make the 2500 alot more comfortable to work with. If ur serious about music then i would buy a piece of hardware that makes you feel you wont have to upgrade later on.

I never regretted buying the 1k....Because I could not have afforded the 2.5k, and still could not today. If I could have afforded it, however, I would like tp have the tilt screen and the better pads and more outputs.

Either way you will not regret the purchase, the 1k is nice but the 2.5k seems to be 1k nicer. Or 1.5k nicer.

Okay, I do occasiionally regret buying the 1k, then I realize how fresh it is, and get to bizness.
