Final O.S. Feature Requests...

I'm interested in what everyone is looking for in the final O.S. update....
If you wanna contribute to a cumulative list of bug-fixes/feature requests, please do it here...

If you're happy with 1.71 forever, or just wanna hate, keep the f#@k out.

Unless you got some funny sh!t... ..then, by all means...

If this goes well, I'd like to poll everyone, to rank bugs/features for order of demand/importance/etc....

...and due to the current 4k flash mem. restraints, most of these will need to wait for either a 4000-XL, or 5000...

Anyways, here goes what I've got so far:

1. Independent track lengths

2. Audio Burning

3. ALL settings saved w/ program

4. Q-Link control over more functions/master tempo/etc.

5. Chop Shop, or, an possibly an updated Chop Shop, in which the user can utilize the "Grab" function up to 16 times in one pass, and have each new tapped start point auto-assign to the tapped pad in an empty bank.

6. DVD-RW read/write/drive support

7. Improved/expanded sample library support/loading

8. EQ per part

9. FX sync to clock

10. Recorded Mutes in song mode

11. Audition while playing

12. Audition of keygroups w/ streaming

13. Splitting function for drum tracks

14. Improved/expanded/real-time time-stretch

15. Option for audible stutter-frame scrubbing

16. Improved/expanded note repeat

17. Cut & paste operations on multiple tracks simeltaneously

18. Chord Memory

19. Ability to create fully pitched multisamples independent of
time/duration

20. Ability to stack MIDI notes onto one pad (chord cheating for
external module)

21. Ability to edit sample/sequence/data/events in AkSys

22. Actual values for filters (20 hz to 20 khz)

23. Improved/expanded Pitch Shift/FX

Like I said, lots of these must wait, but I'd appreciate it if the veteran users can clean this list up to the applicable ones, and add bug-fixes/applicable feature-requests that I'm not aware of...

I was just looking through the manual and found out that some of the features I thought I was pioneering were already there so thats good to know!!!

-fix bug in sequence editing of note duration. The bug is documented here: http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=48765

-allow the pad mixer to select any drum program in current multi

-add a keygroup mixer, like the pad mixer but for keygroup programs, to control level, pan, send, etc. by Kg. I.e., let the pad mixer work on keygroup or drum programs alike.

-allow the setting of Span Low and Hi values in the Program / PITCH menu for keygroups to be turned off so that keygroup spans are not accidently clobbered by a running sequence or an attached MIDI controller

-fix the bug in ak.sys that causes it to crash / hang on large copy operations from MPC to PC/Mac.

-fix the BATCH RENAME operation in ak.sys to preserve the original alphabetical ordering of sample names. As it is, the batch rename operation scrambles the original ordering in an unpredictable way.

How about a drag and drop feature in Akai sys like samplecell used to have.

If I drag a set of samples into akai sys while holding a certain key, it sets them up automatically in a patch where the samples are assigned to key groups.

1) This may be TOTALLY some MPC5000 shit, but I would like to see a version of Ak Sys that can truley integrate with the computer, where you could edit sequences and program your tracks in a grid mode on your computer screen. This would be sorta like the MV-8000. I think it would take the 4000 to a whole 'nother level.

2) also, if you want to load a sample (say, Sample 5) into a current program from an old program, you have to rename that sample if you already HAVE a Sample 5 in your current program. This can mess up loading of the old program next time you access it. If you changed the name of Sample 5, to, say Sample 5A, for convenience, it wont load properly in the future. It seems that you sould be able to rename the sample in your current program, cause it' doesn't matter what that is, you'll save it later. Make sense?

3) In ak sys, you can't choose a key group to edit by hitting a pad in the program edit page. Since so much shit is drums, it would make things alot easier to just select a pad to select the key group, instead of using the mouse. And since akai's pad order is NOT in numerical order (WHY??? For like 15 years now?), it's abitch to find the right keygroup/note number.

4) A decent Lo-Fi effect. even like the one on the MPC1000 would be a start. The down-sample function is pretty good, but it's not too gritty. Something can def. be done in this department.

5) Metering on the dynamic-based effects: compression, auto-wah. We are flying blind out there.


Akai has SO many loyal customers, yet they drag there feet on stepping up to modern levels of technology. Hopefully we can get them to step it up.

I agree completely.

When you think of the target demographic for Akai Pro, and it's current competition with DAW software(FL, Reason, etc.), it's only natural for Akai to step up & compete here.

While it would be impossible on the current 4k...
...possibly, in the future, on the 4000XL/5000, they could make a move in the direction of DAW software dominance as well.

Stay with me here...

If you frequent other hip-hop production sites, software users are always comparing/seeking to emulate MPC's, and often, when they upgrade, they choose MPC.

If Akai were to really put in some work on the next MPC platform's O.S., integrating from 16-36 audio tracks, VST support, full Q-link integration, etc., I think the 4000xl/5000 O.S. could eventually become an entry level stand-alone DAW software, by itself.
But only if first presented in an expensive flagship, for salivary marketing purposes...

If they dropped it stand-alone software first, I don't think it would fly...
...but ...and this is the hook...if & when they drop the entry level software, based upon the new flagship's O.S., or just plain & simple, drop the 5k's O.S. as software, even if it got cracked severely, it would still hook newbies on that format/work-flow/style/etc.
...and when they got paper & wanted to move up to hardware...BINGO...it's a no brainer... ...Akai Pro gets their $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Right now, I'm really interested in compiling a definitive list of APPLICABLE 4000 feature requests/current 4k bugs, in order of importance/demand, so please, veteran users, put 5 on it, so to speak.

the only problems i have had with the 1.71 is hard drive problems.

first time i would load a song up i had saved and as soon as i hit play/or hit a pad the mpc would freeze.so i had to scrub the h.d. and start all over again.luckly i had everything backed up on cd-r or i would have been f**ked.

second problem is one song has simply vanished from the h.d. all together.(and no,i didnt delete it)


as far as features go everything i would want has been mentioned.(except for mybe some better fx)

1.- Location buttons, at least 5 and usable while playing (I know there are 3 locatos on go to)
2.- EXT3 or EXT2 filesystems... they're open source and use journaling, if needed (ext3)
3.- The ability to use samples from the hard drive; not loaded into memory
4.- Ak Sys linux support!
5.- Pasting into a different tone-key-whatever (like cutting a do and pasting it 3 semitones lower)
6.- The ability to select even/odd/all notes. (it's useful when sequencing funk drums)
7.- Modules/keyboards midi definitions (tritón rack, kurzweil pc2x, etc). (for bank/pgm/effects controling)
8.- Touchscreen ;=)
9.- More periferials (ribbon, infrared sensor, slider, etc)
10.- Insert effects on tracks
11.- Global mastering suite (multi-compressor, maximizer, reberb, parametric eq)
12.- Midi file support??? (does it support)
13.- A preloaded sound bank (not GM!)

I'm totaly new to MPC-4000 so, I just listed my first impressions here.... the things I needed and couln't find.

what would be s simple and really convenient feature is the ability to save ALL_SEQ_SONG1.ALL files directly from the MPC's memory in AK.Sys
(instead of having to save on the MPC's harddrive, and then transfer the file by Ak.Sys)
