My MPC 1000 seems fishy...

I just bought a used 1000 off of ebay w/ the memory upgrade (128 mb). I'm relativly new to using these, so I don't know much about how they should work, or what to expect. It finally came today, and I've been going through the manual all day, and experimenting w/ some of the functions. When I got to the preset sounds and started banging out beats, I noticed that some of the pads seem messed up. There are times when I hit a pad once, and the sample will be triggered a few times, making a short jumble of repeated sounds. This continually keeps happening for 4 or 5 pads. Another thing that happened was one pad suddenly triggered a sample at a volume I could barely hear, even though the "full level" button was on! Now, I might be a newbie, but I'm thinking this really shouldn't be happening. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Has this happened to you guys? I've tried the search function and sifted through many pages of info but couldn't find anything...sorry to ask this question, as I'm sure it's been asked a million times. Thanks & Peace.

yeah that's no big worry buddy - crack that thing open and have a look at thew guts. towards the end of that long post at the top, there's a pic by pic description of how to get inside and what to look for.

i'm actually about to go in there and solder 2 new pads in myself.

you aint holding it down? or hitting the edges of the pad or anything are you? sometimes i can get 2 hits if i dont hit the pad proper. Also you can change the sensativity aswell..

just some alternate ideas.

Yeah, mind did the same as the orginal posters. Not that bad, just every so often on pad 2 (the one that probably gets used the most). Just by making sure i hit it in the center itself worked great. But messing with the sensitivity made sure it didn't happen. I was messing with my friends brand new 1k and it didn't do this though.

interesting, when I had a 1000 I never had a problem with it.

I'm having some other problems as well...sometimes I get distorted sounds when I sample the preset pad and guitar sounds. Does that happen to anyone else?

Also, when I sequence open hi-hat, and try to overdub closed hi-hat patterns over it, some of the open hi-hat sounds drop out. It appears the two sounds can't co-exist in a sequence. Is this normal? Or is it just because the closed hi-hat naturally means you cancel out an open hi-hat (like one live drums)?
