post your promos

i knnow this is not that important or a big deal , but for some reason promo copy records are worth more then an a regular copy record.

i guess you can call it a bragin rights thread or what ever, i'm just curious to see what other promo copies people got .

heres what i got in the last few weeks like in the last two weeks and some others that i have been sittin on .


cindy lauper- she bop
cindy lauper-girls just want to have fun
steve miller-abracadabra
sting-when you love some one set then free
joe walsh-life been good (album)
waitresses-i know what boys like (a bit warped but it plays good)
both worlds- dont you hide it
billy cobham- spectrum
grand master flash and the furious five-new york, new york
ozone-lil suzy
doc martin-disfunktional
west street mob-breakdance

thats what i can remeber off the top of my head but i got a bucccnh more what type of promos you all got .

James Brown- Black Caesar Sndtrk.
Shuggie Otis- Freedom Flight
Gil Scott Heron- Small Talk at 125th and Lenox
those are the good ones.
oh, and Olympic Runners- Hot to Trot

if your promo is a white label,or the word promo or "promotional copy" is actually printed ON the label along with the rest of the label info-then it is valued higher-because these are from the earliest,and therefore,best quality pressings-
the masters that the records are stamped from can make many thousands sometimes-and you know you want the first ones pressed:):)
in short,they sound much better than ones pressed way down the line-
also,since there are fewer of them made,in collecting circles they get a higher price due to the rarity-
unfortunately,if it is just stamped someplace on the label or sleeve,it wont get as high a price,but still may be an earlier pressing-which will do a crate digger well,cuz we are after the better sound,after all:)

i just picked up a white label promo 7" 33rpm jukebox EP of
count basie and his orchestra doing james bond music-called"basie meets bond"-mint shape,with all the jukebox cards and pictures-:):)
i know he did a 12"album of the same name,but cant find any reference to a 7"-
maybe worth some cash???? i sampled some nice little piano tinkles from it:)

@sam we got that album of count just havent had time to check it out looked pretty good theres a 45 place in seattle that maybe you canfind out about that 45 you got . sorry i dont remeber the site or the name of the place , but i had been researchin some 45's my self and came across this guy. try to goggle it.

all the promo's i have ,have NOT FOR SALE FOR DEMONSTRATION ONLY and it's part of the label and they sound way better then a regular pressin indeed. .....but that Sting one, i have to disagree. it sounds better on the album then the promo. theres stuff missin it that is on the album that makes it sound better even the 45 sounds much nicer,

i also got promo's of:

test press of-lastnight a dj saved my life
kraftwerk-numbers (45)

and a good chink of my collection is disco...as a matter of fact, most of my 12"s are promos...and they're all disco/house/dance music

not just them , somoe cats in the west coast S.F. area like there disco too, i got some promos too but i just cant remeber them these are a few that i rember off the top of my head and a few that i have found in the last weeks.

we got mass promos in our store in the last week classic shi+ too

I just got two crates full of records from a guy my brother knows.

Found one very special record: O.C. - Still diggin' composition

On one side there's "PWS Burn Me Slow" handwritten on the white label sticker, on the other side there's this weird "Test Pressing - Music connection inc." sticker

I can upload pictures if someone wants.

My question: What about this record? Does "test pressing" means they did this before doing the normal production? Where can I look how many of these are around?

The record quality is mad nice!

I have a few from the 60's:

Max Roach-Drums Unlimited: promo in mono

Mondo Cane: promo in mono

Pluph: DJ Promo in mono

The Manfred Mann: promo in mono

Also albums in mono are worth more than the stereo version.

I have too many. Oddly enough, I never look for um, I usually find out when I'm home that they are promos (unless they are wlps).
